Heard about it when it came out, and just checked it out now. I think it’s great that Violent J is supportive of his daughter, and that’s all I really got to say about it.

On the other hand, I need some advice. I think I may be a furry? I like the costumes and the aesthetic, and I always liked anthro animals. But my friend group is very toxic towards furries, and it always makes me wonder if I should really fully join the fandom. Deep down I know that’s who I am, but it’s hard for me to accept it when I constantly hear furries getting talked down. I also don’t really know how I would get involved as I don’t really have a fursona and I can’t draw or make suits or anything. Thanks to any responses, this community is full of very kind and creative people and I’m really glad I found it x

If I was in your situation, I would accept myself as a furry regardless of my friends' opinions. Remember that there's nothing wrong with being a furry and if you think you are one, you'll probably feel better accepting it rather than staying in denial. I certainly did.

You don't need to tell your friends that you're a furry at all if you don't want to. It's only a hobby at the end of the day, even though some treat it as though it's as big as coming out as LGBT or something when it really isn't. If you do say you're a furry, well... remember the saying: "Those who care don't matter and those that matter don't care." In other words, if they're your true friends, they'll accept you regardless of your differing interests.

And finally, you don't need to have any creative skills or have a fursona to participate in our fandom. All you require is a liking for anthropomorphic animals and the want to join and you're in. A person could simply be a fan of Warrior Cats or Pokemon and nothing more, and they're welcome here. A lot of furries just go and browse furry art and commission art if they have money. So art/suit making skills are certainly not a necessity.

But if you want to be a furry, I'd say go ahead. But it's up to you. :)

But, yeah, I realise now that I became really detached from my fursona, and that was what made me drift away from the community. So I've spent today designing a new fursona!! He actually used to be one of my ocs, and now he's been upgraded to my fursona, because I actually connect with him a lot, despite him being very different to me and him even being a different gender to me.

So, here's my fursona, Blue so far. (He needs a lot more design changes and this definitely isn't how he's going to look forever!):

I don't really see what would be the point in telling people you're a furry unless they ask. If you treat it like coming out as a sexuality or make a big deal of it, it'll just make people suspicious.

my expierence with "coming out" as a furry was just me integrating it more and more into my life until people were just like oh well

and i would make jokes about me being a furry and then say rly tho

and i guess my friends and fam are cool except for my mom she just says "you're not a DOG!" and I say "i know i'm a FURRY!" and then she makes a im-angry-but-not-really-i-love-you face and goes "UUUhhg." and ruffles my hair
