I loved it! No theatres near me are showing it either... :(

I think it's having a wide release on friday (Nov. 15). Of course, it's on opening night for my play :P I'll have to wait 2 weeks to see it.

I read Allegiant recently! It was good, but I'm not sure how I feel about the ending :?

Just finished Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray. It being a classic, I've heard quite a bit about it. Everything I heard made Dorian Gray the embodiment of selfishness and vanity, but I found him to be very easy to pity. He was just so narrow-sighted. Excellent book, though, and quite short compared to most of the classics.

Oh my goodness, how did I not find this group sooner? I love books! I'd love to join you all chatting about them!

Username: Amberfly
Nickname (if any): None, really
Top Ten Favorite Books: Most of them are fantasy, since that's what I like best, although I have read quite a few classics as well. I am going to list series as one work because that's how I read them, as a cohesive unit. Plus it lets me cheat a bit and list more books =) In no particular order:
- The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan--epic, high fantasy, 14 books in all
- The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien--enough said
- The Mabinogian Tetraology by Evangeline Walton--four short novels/novellas based on Welsh mythology
- It by Stephen King--Creepy, magical horror and the power of childhood
- The Stand by Stephen King--post-apocalyptic struggle between good and evil, played out among the survivors of the super-plague
- The Harry Potter series--enough said
- The Mennyms series--a family of life-size, sentient rag dolls trying to live incognito in London. A childhood favorite of mine that's sadly gone out of print now.
- Why Am I Grown So Cold?--an anthology of poetry subtitled "Poems of the Unknowable", about all things supernatural. Also sadly out of print.
- The Song of Ice and Fire series--enough said
- American Gods by Neil Gaiman--mythological figures in a modern setting. As a rule I like Gaiman's short fiction better than his novels, but this one was an exception.
Average amount of time it takes you to finish a book: Depends on the book and how busy I am. A few days if it's really long and really good, longer if it's something I don't like, shorter if the book is short.
How many of the above symptoms you regularly experience: Of the ones on the front page, all of them. Plus a few more I can think of. Such as the fact that I'm ofter poorer than I should be, because all my extra pocket money goes to buy books. Or, the paperbacks are piling up in my home because I buy them faster than I can read them. Or, my favorite store in the local mall is the one that sells used paperbacks for $1. I could probably go on but I'll stop there for tonight.

Welcome Amberfly! Have you ever read any of HP Lovecraft's works? I'd recommend them if you haven't. Lovecraft was one of Stephen King's influences. He wrote quite a few things that sort of teetered between fantasy and horror.

Hi, and thank you for the welcome! No, I haven't read any Lovecraft, although I've been meaning to for a while. I'm a full-time college student studying English (yay) so I haven't got much time for leisure reading except in summer. And there is never enough time even then to read everything I want to read. I have a collection of some of Lovecraft's works around here somewhere, so I will get to them eventually, but lately it's all been classics and a few shorter, lighter things thrown in whenever I have a moment. I love classics in general, but they can get a little overwhelming when you have to finish three of them in the same week.

I've only been able to read a few of his works from horror story anthologies (the libraries around me are hopelessly under-booked[?]), though I've been meaning to buy a Lovecraft collection. I also love the classics, but about one or two week is all I care to read. I like little breaks in between.

Nickname (if any): Owl or Dusk
Top Ten Favorite Books: Um...
*The Shifter
*Order of the Phoenix
*Maximum Ride
*Ender's Game
*The Last Hope
*The Lost Hero
*The Deathly Hallows
*Divergent
*Ender's Shadow (even though I haven't finished it)
*The Alloy of Law
These are not in order, by the way.
Average amount of time it takes you to finish a book: If people let me read (which doesn't happen much), maybe a couple of days, though I read Divergent in less than 24 hours (I fell asleep during General Conference, though).
How many of the above symptoms you regularly experience: three or four, depending on if I like Fang anymore or not. (Does having to put the book the book down to cope with feels count? Or having the urge to read in the middle of class?)
