How do character litters/breedings work? Do you do these just for fun with random characters just to see how the puppies are or just do this with characters that have a serious relationship?
Well, first off, how they work. Basically you take two creatures, and you think about their designs and colors and how common they are and how you can put those together into pups. Take some litters I just bred, for example [they are owned by Seighin, I do not by any means own them!}

The parents of these pups are Seighin's male and Seighin's female dog. {again, they belong to Seighin. I do not know the designers, sorry!}
Basically you think about the different colors and markings of each and put them together based on what you know. For example;

Base color. I'm not going to take the white of the female and put it on the top, because neither of them has a white back. That doesn't make sense. But I did take it and put it on the bottom for some of the pups, like the female has. I'm not going to take a random base color, either.
What I did was I separated the base colors into 3 groups - underside, overside, and markings. Pretty self explanatory.
I also thought about the colors and their rarity. Like for the eyes, more dogs have brown eyes than blue, so not as many pups had blue eyes as brown. Stuff like that. You just take the two designs and combine them based on your previous knowledge and common sense, and you get some pups :3

Now, the second question - "Do you do these just for fun with random characters just to see how the puppies are or just do this with characters that have a serious relationship?"
I'd only do it with characters that either have a serious relationship, or one of those things where they were in a relationship and broke up or something. Since I consider my characters to be... I dunno, like independent or something, then I don't randomly breed them, they have to be compatible personality-wise too.

okay im real serious about my opinons on this
the characters literally get about a month + of roleplaying semi-lit + and their relationship develops first, that has to happen. then it could take a long time before i decide to breed them. i haven't bred any characters yet. i see my characters as more than just ... characters, lol honestly so they have to be like ready for kids and all
never would breed a random two.
