Hi, I was wondering, can you do all this battle stuff with Pokemon black or white, using a Nintendo DS lite?

Online battle was possible, but Nintendo doesn't support the online features of DS games anymore, only 3DS, that's what I heard.
I find that kinda mean, since Black & White 2 aren't that old yet, but that's how it works, Nintendo wants more people to buy the 3DS...
