@dalmatian

Yes me too! I actually have two scripts started and Ill be working on them for the rest of the summer....I probs won't end up doing them though :lol:

and I am going to Breyerfest next year no matter what...even if I have to go by myself!! But hopefully my mom will be on board so we can go together. She already rides/loves horses but she only slightly appreciates model horses!! We actually probably could have gone this year but we're going on a big vacation next week and they were too close to one another...

I am excited for the carnival theme...I feel like the special runs will have really loud and exciting colors and patterns cause that is how carnival decorations are. Some people are bummed because they already had a carnival theme but I don't think they understand that it's Brazilian Carnival!!

@Cuore

awesome pickup :D I have the dun sabino!! Which one is your grail?!?!

@everyone

is anyone in the collector's club? Do you think it's worth it to join??
PM me for anything!

Quick question that probably sounds stupid: what exactly is an etchie? I've been seeing a lot of people talk about them lately, and I have no idea what it is

@Penultima

that would be fun going again and seeing what has changed!

@sweet toxic

An etchie is where you take an OF model and scratch the paint away to reveal the white underneath to customize...for example if you took a regular bay colored model and etched it into a bay paint horse!!

Image

Like here's a regular partly cloudy and an etched version....and not a stupid question!!!!

Wow! That is very pretty. With how realistic Breyer is and all, is a wonder that they don't already do this.

@sweet toxic

*haha not by me by the way! and I think it's more of a way to customize..so if Breyer did it, it would just be a better looking OF model (I wouldn't mind that either!)

@frostykitty

I've never done it before..but i've heard of people using Matte/Glossy spray when they're done so maybe try that?? I'd also love to see finished product pics :D

I have a rant. Not meant to offend anyone.

Breyer has been getting a little snotty over the years. In the first few years that they'd had the higher tech kind of paint and things, they'd done good. They'd had breyerfest back then too, right? But I'm starting to notice that the quality control is getting horrible. For example, many people had trouble with the special run called Haute Couture because the quality was awful. Many models had been warped. They say that this year's breyerfest was a lot smaller. I see why now. Because of quality control, and possibly because of the weather. This has lead me to believe that I like stone horses better. This is the part where I explain why. I like stone horses because their events are in-doors (the models cannot possibly be warped this way). They also are a lot more realistic. I see most breyers as toys now that I've gotten into stone horses. I feel that the stone horses are much more limited, and are shelf models. However, they are super expensive, which gives breyer the advantage on their part. My biggest problem with stone horses is that if I spend 200 dollars for one horse, I could get four 50 dollar traditional breyer horses. My argument is that the 200 dollar horse is of better quality than the 50 dollar horse. Haute Couture was 65 dollars with tax, and I was lucky enough to get a refund. So I have decided to stop collecting breyers and start collecting stone horses.

End rant u.u

No, still not done with the first side, but I did FINALLY take some outdoor pics! With my Lusitano Spirit of the Horse model, I call him twister, this morning I took a few.

@Invader Frostbyte- I can agree in part, it wasn't a super big Breyerfest this year though I feel like that mostly was due to the heat, and also I got really screwed over with my Simba Celebration Horse. My friend and I both got ours at the same time, her's is nearly perfect as far as quality goes except the raised back leg does not touch the ground and will have to be moved. Mine is downright awful- seam lines everywhere, I don't think they attempted sanding them at all, and his body has warps as well as pretty bad shading compared to my friend's Simba. He went straight back into the box and will be up on ebay soon.

On the contrary, my Quelle surprise, as well as other models my friend got (Chanel, Ganache), look amazing. It's really either luck of the draw, or taking the time to check the models out before you get them (if you have a chance). But if they had the level of detail and quality control Stone horses have, they'd be as expensive as Stones, no question there. Breyer makes cheaper more affordable horses with the sacrifice of some quality, but that's about the general rule with any product. That's also sacrificed with making them hand painted individually, each one is unique, even if some of them are unique in non-appealing ways. Because Breyers are made at such a larger scale than Stones, yet still hand painted, there's a lot of room for mistake. I don't think Breyer is getting snotty, they are just trying to appeal to a wide consumer base by producing enough models while still having them be cheap enough and widely available. I love Stones, I just cant justify spending that much on a model horse ever. I barely can justify buying new Breyers nowadays.
