Hey there guys.

Would anyone be willing to join an Xmen-esque roleplay with me? I would prefer it to be large group. It's not exactly Xmen, just the idea of the a "School for the Gifted" who have special mutations that provide them with unnatural, and often hidden away, talents. Basically, Charles Xavier's whole academy in the movie. There might be a plot later on, but mainly it would be just the mystery of discovering your powers, and maybe romance/conflict/drama/etc thrown in there.

For literate peeps, though.
{2-3 paragraphs per post, 12 sentences each, at least. Must be good paragraphs though. Not jerkily-short sentences or bad writing...}

I'd join.
School's here. I have slow responses, sorry about that.

Do any of you guys have roleplay pet peeves?
Like, for instance, mine is when people- even advanced roleplayers- say they've filled out the "forum".
It's not a forum. CS is a forum. You've filled out a form.

Yeah, that does annoy me quite a bit. On the other hand, I can understand it if they are using an iPhone, because mine autocorrects "form" to "forum" whenever I'm using the internet.
(The odd thing is, it doesn't change anything when I'm in email or memo.)

My biggest pet peeves are roleplays about war/fighting where nobody dies, and time differences.
The time differences can't really be fixed, but it sucks having a 12 hr difference during the school year, because then our online times only overlap for a few precious minutes at night for me, and 7-7:20 am, again for me. It gets better during breaks though, because then they overlap from around 7 to around 10, both am and pm.

As for those stupid war roleplays... *shudder*
The only reason my now very fighting-oriented roleplay didn't die (See what I did there?! Haha...no. Not funny.) was because I made all the members actively roleplay "disposable" characters alongside their "surviving" charactet who, while they could still be strong, high-ranking, and popular, had to be killed after a set number of battles. Only I and the member who plays as said disposable knows what that character is, because nobody remembers what the forms said anymore. (I keep a list and PM members a reminder when they go on the "To Die List", which is very noticeable on its own thanks to its neon pink color.)

And before all our feelings will subside
Let's escape past the air, the atmosphere

My eyes they looked into the night sky a bit too much
And then found light it turned into a painful touch
If this world will keep on spinning in the time ahead
You should go and find a reason to live on instead
Saying bye this afternoon is really too soon

My biggest pet peeve? Characters who are always right. I just hate it when a character never fails to have a witty comeback at the ready, never loses anything, and is never afraid. People might not do it on purpose, and I've seen a lot of people doing it without actually realizing it. I know that there is an appeal in having very intelligent characters, but making a character with average intelligence who lacks a sharp tongue won't hurt either, I'm sure. There are many more ways that people can make interesting characters instead of the standard "rebellious, quick-witted and sarcastic" traits. But of course, I won't stand in anyone's way if they wish to make a character just like that. I just won't like the character unless they have other traits going for them.

What annoys me is when I get a response that is about 3-4 paragraphs worth of description and reflection on the characters past, and a single sentence of dialogue and any other respondable material. Happens in a lot of Semi-Literate RPs, unfortunately, since people are more focused on quantity rather than quality. So, you pretty much still have 1-liner posts, but now you have to read a bunch of fluff to get to it.

I get annoyed about that too, MBRShorse. I know it's 2-3 paragraph requirement, but talking on and on about how one's hair glistens in the light...it... -_-

I can never prattle on about stuff. I can't do it. I feel like I'm wasting my own time trying to think about something actually important to talk about. :/

People on the one x one thread, who say they're semi-lit in their request thing, and all their recent posts are one liners. Ugh... That's not semi-lit >.<
Or when someone messages you and you specifically asked for a little bit if informationg, and all they say is 'hi, I want to role-play with you'. ...no.... Just no.

Another thing about the group role-plays is when someone makes it uber pretty. A little color jere and there is nice, but when it's completely distracting from what you're writing, what's the point?

When people post a picture, quote, lyrics, backstory, etc, etc, etc, with every post.

It drives me insane. We don't need to know any of that, it just makes everything take longer to load. I often wonder if they're trying to make up for some other aspect of their post, namely, length.

Brace yourselves, you guys. Way-too-long rant below. XD

Semi-lit is fairly easy for me to do. I mean really, most people speak in one or two sentences at a time to begin with, so once you add a sentence of description of their body language or something, and maybe a thought or explanation or two, you are good to go. Whether description annoys me or not depends on what it is that is being described. If you are in a new setting, then sure, weave in little descriptions as you will. If you aren't currently speaking with anyone, letting us know how your character is sitting/standing/moving will make it easier to know how to have our characters approach. But nobody cares about how the airship's faintly bronze-tinted hanging lanterns' soft, warm light turns you hair the color of amber honey. Really.

Literate roleplays rarely work out well for me for that very reason. They are fine at first, as long as I have a good idea of how the plot is going, or the surroundings are new and I have a basic idea of what they are supposed to be like. But then comes the inevitable parts where everybody is in the same, very familiar space, having a casual conversation. You can't describe your surroundings, you can't speak for a long period of time, and there is little you can do while trying to keep a conversation going, after all. So people describe their hair. (Or re-describe every already thoroughly described little detail, making the reader think your character is one of those "Ooh SHINYYYY" people) Its either that, or leave and do something else entirely, which is annoying because it limits contact between characters to ridiculous degrees.
The problem with literate roleplays is that with three or so posts, you have basically written a chapter's worth of text, but because you don't know how the others will react, or what they will do, you can't say much. And then, you end up with a chapter of description and one three-turn exchange's worth of dialogue. I saw a page worth of text once that looks like this with most of the description removed:

"Hi Xavier!" Ana called. "What's up?"
Xavier shouted back at her through the window of the boys' dorm. "Way too much homework. You?"
"None, I finished it all back at study hall with The Lump." she laughed, rolling her eyes.

Me: What. The. Hell. Was. That? -_-

33Kitty: I completely understand. ;-; After awhile, people have to understand that several paragraphs is impossible at points without being awfully redundant or just plain annoying. I'm a literate RPer; I usually can throw something together that isn't too bad even in those scenarios. But there are times when you just have to write less. It's the RPs where immediately the owner threatens to yell/warn/ban you for shortening a post that fail. But there's no way of knowing which RPs will be like that, so I just have to guess from the start. *sigh*
I make my RPs seven-through-ten line minimum, which isn't much, but highly encourage writing more. Generally I get a good group of literate Rpers who have no reason not to cut back their posts when there's nothing to do. ^^
