Though I really don't see myself as a wolf kindred spirit, since they're pack driven and a bit vicious.
here's a really nice index of a lot of analyses for different forms! c:
i recommend starting off reading the main traits/headings in each analysis before reading anything in-depth so you can get an overview and cross animals off if general traits don't fit at all.
and your dæmon definitely doesn't have to take only viable forms. there are a few people who project primarily as a human, and ark will sometimes be in human form rather than any animal. hybrids and humans, etc. are totally fine to project as, maybe as a comfort form or just for fun- you seem to realize the difference between viable and non-viable forms so you're definitely not doing this wrong. c:

(sorry, draumr, haha)
Yeah, definitely don't feel like your comfort forms need to be viable! The true form is an animal that's been analyzed thoroughly, comfort forms are purely for giggles! I remember I had a few days where Tos refused to change into anything but a bowling ball, lol.

What aspect(s) do you focus on most when projecting your daemon (size, textures, action, detail, color, anatomy, etc.)?
Definitely actions, and colours. Anatomy not to much; I actually seem to envision Vee in my art style? Which is...bizarre I guess. But it's still realistic in some way. :0

Lalonde, for what it's worth, your projected dæmon could be anything. Animal forms are definitely the most honored, but it's not really for us to put "limits" on your imaginative experiences, or in other words the interactions you have with your dæmon.
I was projecting and conversing with my dæmon way before I knew what dæmons or The Dæmon Forum was. I joined this community because for the longest time I felt weird and un-relatable. Granted I didn't go around telling people this, but I would ask myself why on earth I projected "the voice in the back of my head" as a squirrel character.
So it was a great relief for me to find hundreds of other people who either talked to their characters, or story protagonists, or, most certainly, their dæmons. I felt other dæmians were a very self-aware and open-spirited bunch who honored something many, many people don't validate or care about; an intrapersonal relationship (relationship within the self.)
So to me form-finding is more of an aspect of the community than of me and my dæmon. I just see it as a way to personality test on the side. Which I guess makes sense, because so much of this practice is psychology it's almost a given that your personality would be important to how you do this thing.
I lucked out because my imaginary companion is a white squirrel. =) Within the realm of official form-finding my personality matches a different creature's analysis, but I still keep him a squirrel because I've had him for like ten years and shapeshifting isn't right for his character, haha.

I used to imagine my daemon in my art style, but then I got out of that habit because I thought I wasn't supposed to and I thought other people would think it was weird. Glad to see I wasn't alone, though!

I would say I probably focus on anatomy and detail more than anything. Colour after that and then texture and such. Mushu isn't big into being touched so He generally hangs out slightly out of reach, focusing on texture has become something I've neglected due to that. As far as size goes I usually just try to project him at around the size I imagine his form would be naturally. It's easier now we're looking into canine type forms as I've worked with a lot of canines and can imagine the size differences easier than say, birds. I suppose it also makes it easier to "see" the movements also.
To weigh in on form opinions as far as I've been aware no one really minds what form you use on a day to day basis. I've seen many instances where people project as dragons, unicorns and all sorts as forms for comfort and familiarity. Just because it wouldn't be a viable fit for a settled form doesn't mean you can't have fun with it.
Mushu was a human for much of my younger teenage years,we liked his human form but he just grew out of it over time and started changing into animal forms more and more.

Anyways, my daemon is still taking on human form- More strongly now. He used to be very sporadic where he'd be a human, then some canine, then a feline, then back to a human- Or sometimes a mix. I have to focus mainly on his face or lips and I see him mouthing the words for him to stay "stable". I've had a few short chats with him and I like him though he can be a bit sassy.
I do feel very comfortable when he's human/mostly human though, and It still kinda irks me that I can't envision or concider other animals.
Just a small ramble here don't mind me.
Be yourself ;D None of us do this dæmon thing the same way. It's all imagination, and I'd say we're good at keeping an "anything goes" attitude here.
Canon dæmonism will always regulate that dæmons are animal-shaped, distinct from other "headmates", and have an independent identity. But you're not here to dissociate the definition of dæmonism, you're here to do you. To me you sound like you're on the right track. What does your dæmon look like in human form? I'm interested.

Hi all! I never realized there was a thread for this and I'm so happy to have found it so I figured I'd introduce myself!
I'm Huuuuuuh and my daemon's name is Ku (It's short for Khulan, a Mongolian name meaning "wild donkey"- though Ku has not settled yet and has never really taken the form of a donkey. Originally the name was meant for females- Ku is male- but it fit so well I don't really care).
Anyways, I'm just stopping by to say hello and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone c:
