hi everyone. c: posted on here before ages ago and popping back in for some advice. i used to have my dæmon around all the time (it was a wee bit annoying, actually, couldn't get rid of the scruffy furball) but he kind of faded out and i'm trying to get back into dæmonism again. i've never been able to keep him for long and i keep having patches in my life where he comes and goes. any tips as to how to get back into the habit of projecting and just generally hearing him, talking to him etc for a longer period of time, perhaps permanently from now on? any help would be brilliant, thank you!

@Sepia — Maybe you could carry a small token around to remind you to talk to your daemon? The only way to make projecting and talking feel natural again, is to force it. :3

Does your daemon wear accessories or clothing? If so, what?

Vee doesn't typically wear accessories, but sometimes she'll wear interesting things we happen to spot in the stores. She prefers the darker, more edgier things, and I have to admit it definitely fits her.

Does your daemon's music taste differ from yours at all?

Vee isn't too fond of the slower music i like to listen to? She prefers fast-paced stuff that you can rock out too uvu Although she puts up with the softer and sweeter songs i like.

Do you have a favorite comfort form?

Definitely a caiman, ethiopean wolf, and peregrine falcon! The absolute favorite seems to be the caiman, which is quite bizarre considering I've never quite been fond of any sort of gator :0 Ethiopian wolf and falcon are projected for ease of travel, but caiman seems to be the stable one.
And since we haven't been form hunting due to lack of motivation / time, it seems like it'll stick for a long while.

Haven't been too active here, kind of wish i was more active on CS than I am now.
Also, i recently realized that sometime in late May, Vee and I will have met four years ago. Where did the time go? XD

Hey, welcome back! <3 Honestly, what helps me the most to talk with my dæmon is just checking in frequently on The Dæmon Forum website. Seeing the community reminds me of all I can do with my dæ and I get much more focused. Otherwise I'll just talk to him naturally. Luckily, projecting and conversing comes naturally to me, I've been doing it long before I knew what a "dæmian" was. If you want to say hi I'd love to respond.

Welcome! I'd be happy to answer any questions for you. Some intricacies of dæmonism differ from dæmian to dæmian. For example, some people believe dæmons are your souls, some believe they are mental constructs of your conscience, and some believe other things. So I'd be happy to clarify things for you since for many things about dæmons there exist multiple point of views. =)

@Sepia - i've definitely been struggling with frequent projection lately as well! i've found that as Solarizing said that having an account on the daemon forum really helps to remind me to project and help develop ark, and the token suggestion is very good as well! i try to remember that whenever i'm not actively doing something i can project ark and have a conversation- riding in a car, waiting in lines, etc. it's mainly working at forming a habit and then continuing to project whenever you remember? it'll be easier some days rather than others, but the most important thing is to just keep working at it! c:

i tend to focus on the relative size of the animal, movement, and when 'touching' on textures of fur, feathers, scales, etc. the only detail i really put effort into projecting is in the face, but other than that i don't really put any emphasis on details or even colors unless i'm really concentrating. size seems to be the hardest thing for me to get right out of what i focus on, so i try to work at that and get realistic sizes.

I mostly focus on how he moves, where he is, and if his anatomy is correct. I hardly ever think about mouth movement, color or texture.

@Lalonde — Form finding is an iffy thing. I remember a few years back, a user on the forum was convinced that her daemon was a lion, because he frequently took that form. People told her, that your desired form is very rarely your actual form, but she would have none of it (this is also why I have that Lee Scoresby quote in my signature – you can't run from yourself).
A human is a very interesting comfort form. I've only heard of a few other people whose daemons choose that one. I tried with Erastos once, but it was just really awkward, and his personality ended up blending with my 'headmate'/OC while he was in that form.

Finding your daemons true form is a long and difficult process. I've already had two fake settlings, where I was convinced that we'd finally found his true form (first as a binturong, then as a thylacine). Finding your daemon's true form is all about reading analyses upon analyses of different animals until you find one whose behavior reflects your personality. For me, right now, that's a klipspringer. Neither me nor Tos really enjoy projecting it that much, but it's the most fitting I've found.

Most people don't consider humans to be viable forms (viable means usable. A non-viable form is an impossible form). Humans have extremely complicated behavior, so it's almost impossible to analyse them properly. The same goes for great apes, some parrots, some crows, and dolphins. There are analyses of them on the Daemon Forum, but they're kind of inaccurate since these species' behavior is different from group to group.

thanks for the welcome back. <3 and thanks for the tip, too! it just takes a while to get back into the swing of it, you know what i mean? i go through periods when it's easier and periods when it's harder to do generally - both talking and projecting, this is. but i'll definitely go onto the dæmon forum a bit more, thanks again.

@lalonde - welcome to the thread! nice to see someone's interested in dæmonism. c: i won't add anything on to hostile popcorn's explanation because i think they rounded it off pretty well, but i hope everything works out in terms of settling. i still haven't settled with my dæmon, mostly because he has been popping in and out of my life for the past few years.

er, mostly size i have problems with. at the moment we're looking at centipedes in terms of settled forms and that's quite a hard form to get used to, especially since i haven't personally seen a centipede up close so i don't have that memory to call to hand to help project him. i have a feeling i either have him too large or too small. action i focus on a lot, little things mostly like him flicking his tail in bigger forms and so on and so on. textures i still haven't fully managed to do yet. i would worry about mouth movement, but as he often perches on my shoulder whilst i'm doing things i wouldn't see mouth movement anyway.
