I understand this is horsy's species and I will respect what she does with them, despite whether or not I agree with it. I personally had a very negative reaction when I first saw the post about people being able to buy equids because those of us who can't afford to do so will feel left out and it would create a nasty set of feelings towards one another in the community. i suppose i cant really argue fairness because there are those that would argue its fair to people who bave money and could pay. I'm just very wary of this idea and the negative aspects that could come out of it if some of us are forced to sit and watch while others buy equids that we never had a chance at

That is why I wanted to offer free customs as other people buy them, so that those without money aren't left out. I don't like watching people buy things I could never afford, so I am trying to balance it.

So if you get any ideas please come forward.

I don't want to create ill feelings within the group and if this creates a large amount of ill feeling I won't :D

As much as I'd probably be willing to pay for breedings to get through my list faster, or for customs (starting to dream up a roan dripquip or some such nonsense), I have to side with "nah". ^^; I've been on the side of the fence where money's scarce (heck, I've nearly died from starvation before because I couldn't afford food), and for something that's supposed to be fun like these guys turn into "partial pay-for"... it just turns into a stressfest for all involved. :c
Though, I do like the idea of the artists getting something back for their work. Hm.

I personally would pay $20 for a custom, but of my designing, not hinting; and the official artists could turn it into the new lines. Kinda of like the challenge customs, ya know?

I'm not a huge fan of raffles, with a bunch of people putting in real money and not getting anything out of it, but the few people that win can gloat- which is fair, it's fun winning. But how about a consolation prize for everyone that enters? Nothing big like a custom/ double rare custom. But maybe some art from so-and-so?

Also, this is just a thing to the community, artists (as far as I remember) have permission to give someone in the community a custom, that they feel deserving of one. (once again, that's from what I remember)

I've got to admit that I'm finding myself being negative about this opposed change. I do find it nice to see that you're trying to make an arrangement that works for everyone horsy. But I can't help but feel that some people might after a while feel a bit disgruntled if they keep chipping in to the donation pool to not win a custom after x amount of time and x amount of money spent, and then see someone who didn't spend any money go home with the 'prize'. Or that simply customs in general, no matter if they're rare or not, will lose their rarity over all if everyone who's got the money to spare can simply request one. Which can lead to the specie having a situation occuring similar to the roan one, so it can end up with the people who didn't buy a custom will have the terms for getting one be even stricter (as it's already a lot of work that goes into potentially getting one, such as the 200 equid challenge that was hosted, I simply do not see how this could end up being fair).
The other thing is the paid breeding set up, I'm concerned in the sense of this meaning that free breedings can end up being much less frequent if a lot of people pay for a breeding slot with an artist filling up all of the spots often leaving the ones who can't spare the money to have their chances of catching a breeding (which already is a little challenge in itself) lowered even more leaving them with having an arranged breeding set-up sitting for who knows how long.

I'm not saying this is what will happen, but these are my concerns for what this change can end up creating.

In all honesty, I am 100% against this idea. I see where the thought is coming from, but it will lead to a huge divide - those rich enough to afford customd and those not. Id much rather see effort put into customs- like reopening the 200 challenge, even if it's much larger like 300 or more. Perhaps if both the challenge and some customs and such opened, it would be more fair? Open more opportunities for everyone, not just a select few?

Why is it that all the important stuff around here happens while I'm asleep? xD

So after reading everything (kinda), I think I've come to a decision. I like the idea of the donation pool A LOT. It lets people donate what they can, rewards everyone with more chances for donating more, gives the artists some profit (trying to make money as an artist can be rough, especially on sites like CS), and people are able to win customs. It's like a community effort to raise enough money for a certain amount of custom opportunities. It also means that everyone has a chance to win, unlike in auction scenarios where only those who can pay a huge amount will benefit (I know these auctions will get high, the Kiamaras that are auctioned on DA are already crazy expensive)

The only thing I don't like about it is that it would only happen every so often. I think once every 2-3 months would give people time to raise funds and set a schedule so that people aren't rushing in to get their points donated for the current one since the next chance will be so far away.

Also, I think that if paid customs become a thing, custom options for those of us who can't pay should come along more often. The 200 challenge was a great idea to give art back to the community and earn a special equid - I was, unfortunately, mostly absent from CS when it took place, and would have loved to participate.

As for paid breedings, I'm mostly indifferent. I'm in no rush to get breedings done, so my opinion may be less valid than others who have a ton waiting in the wings, but I personally see no issue with having paid slots accompanying the free slots given out. Like I said earlier, I'm all for profit going back to artists - these wonderful individuals have spent hundreds, maybe closer to thousands of hours creating art in the form of equid designs for the community for free. In the workplace, that kind of dedication would warrant payment. I think that paid breedings are a step in the right direction for making things a bit fairer for the artists and helping those of us with huge breeding lists to narrow things down a bit. The 100 point mark seems about right for a breeding as well, and people can choose to pay more if they want more than 3 traits passed on, with a cap of course.

I don't support paying for adopts however, as I can see the animosity it would cause between members of the community. People already get very upset (myself included) when someone else wins an equid they've fallen in love with. However, it's a bit easier to get over it because that person worked just as hard as you did. Tossing money into the equation could potentially cause a shift in the community where those who openly pay for equids aren't treated as well by the non-profit equid lovers.

Adding on from Birch's comment (I'm so happy to see you in the fanclub Birch!) I like the idea of a $20 custom. It's not too high an amount that people can't afford to earn it through art, and it won't break the bank for those of us who can afford it. It is also the usual price when commissioning someone to design a character for you, though artists would only have to transfer your design, so it's generous to the artists as well. Perhaps to keep special equids rarer (since that seemzs to be a concern), they could cost $30? A 50% increase in price for an increase in rarity. in the case of double special customs though (roan skelly, valentine drag, etc), I feel like those should be the ones reserved for raffles and contests and such. As for consolation prizes for raffles, maybe everyone who enters can add an extra breeding slot onto any one of their equids (unless it's sterile of course)? It would be something to keep track of, but wouldn't be too difficult to confirm with a bit of digging.

So to sum things up, I've made a little list which (hopefully) includes everything.

I support
-paid breedings on top of free breedings
-donation pool
-more opportunities for customs, whether that be through hard work or through donation pool events
-set price for regular and single special customs
-extra breeding slot as consolation raffle prize

I don't support
-auctioning customs
-selling adopts
-paying more for special breedings

I don't think I will ever actually win a custom there are to many of us and a rarity of customs. It's not like you only going to be able to buy one. I feel like it will be more even plus for people who don't have money you can always wait til your birthday or something ? I also don't think horsy would change a lot if money for a custom I mean. There fake. and a lot if you pay money for art of your equids how is it much different for a actual Equid custom ? I think it's a great idea. Also if horsy makes money of us she could put the money into other Equid things to us hey you never know horsy might be a millionaire one day sorta like WEBKINZ ? Could have have her own Equid website like Horseisle or star stable etc and everything?! Look at the big picture guys! Think about it a little more this way people who really want a custom as a dream WILL FINALLY GET ONE!!:D just don't over think about it. If you don't want to pay money you don't have too? It's not like your forced?

I personally think it'd be a good idea to sell customs and such. It's a way for people who aren't always online to be able to catch breeding slots, and also a way to reward the artists.
