I went and looked at the Build-a-Bear ponies today...didn't get one. I didn't like them all that much when I saw them in person. The hair and head structure didn't appeal to me.

But...I did buy the Hot Topic Derpy messenger bag today! Also preordered the Derpy lunchbox (got it at a good price too, 25% off )

Well, their hair is tied back for most of the ones in the shop, and I was able to make my Pinkie's hair pretty accurate, but I can see that it might not appeal to some^^ I'm really happy with mine, though.
