@rad believe it or not, everyone here uses bbcode. cx despite how boring it might seem to some people, there's actually a lot you can do with it because on top of the code you can also use veer, symbols, different types of letters, etc., so you get some really original forms. it's just a matter of learning how to make it your own.
but if you're actually looking for a type of program, gimp is my lifesaver. i don't have the money to afford photoshop or anything adobe on my own and gimp is similar enough to make a form for a site like chickensmoothie. if you don't want to download anything, pixlr editor is a really nice tool as well, but it doesn't work with gifs as well. i usually use gimp to make graphics, like my onexone search and storage thread.
@darling i think i know what the problem is, but i checked your thread and it seems like you don't need help anymore. cx
looks lovely <3
@susurri try not to get discouraged! c: that's the best advice i can give. it might not work out the first time around, but once you start making more people will start realizing your rps are rad and join. i promise cx

lucine // that looks amazing! i love the boxes & i adore the color scheme. uvu
aurie // thanks!! that's actually just a test to make sure it fits in the forums. i'm planning on making a new thread (curse my inner perfectionist) & i'm gonna play around with the coding some more and add some color. but, still, thank you cx

@rad as mint and aurie have already said, everyone uses bbcode; it's just a
matter of finding fun new ways to include fonts, special characters, borders,
transparents, etc. in your form. some people also use image editors like pixlr
and gimp to help rearrange elements and add things they wouldn't be able to
otherwise. as for me personally, i got an illegal download of photoshop— best
decision i've made in, like, my entire life. you can create your own gifs, and
if you're like me and screenshot your forms in order to preserve their layout,
you can make the entire screenshot one giant gif. it's v useful.
@susurri don't lose hope! i know there's a group rp advertising thread somew-
here on this site; i used to use it all the time when i needed more members.
i'm sure you'll have more people joining anyway, it's just a matter of patience.
do you tend to create characters similar to you or more towards the opposite?
more towards the opposite, i think. i don't do it consciously but i have a lot of
characters who are overconfident assholes and i find that they're the most fun
to write, but i'm not like that irl lol. imo rping is about stepping into someone
else's shoes and reacting to a situation the way they would react, not you, so
i do my best to create diverse characters who are are all as different from me
as possible. the nature of the rp itself also influences them; some kinds of peo-
ple work better in certain scenarios than others, and you need to consider the
kind of relationships you want your character to have with everyone else's.
i actually get kind of annoyed when people only ever play one kind of persona-
lity or say they can only play females bc they're a female, etc. etc. it screams
crap to me. like, you're not supposed to be similar to all of your characters and
you definitely don't have to relate to them. doing that defeats the entire point
of roleplaying; for me, literally all of the fun comes from seeing the world in a
new light and reacting to it in ways i personally wouldn't. but that's just my op-
inion, i didn't mean to turn it into a rant lmao. there's nothing wrong w liking a
particular personality trope or gender; i know i'm guilty on both counts. i just
get frustrated when ppl won't try new things. anyway, here's a question inspired
by that tangent:
- Code: Select all
[b]do you prefer to play a specific gender? why or why not?[/b]

a little bit of both. all my characters have one or two of my traits, but they're mostl
y different. i like to act, and this is just another way of getting into character for m
e, so i tend to create very different personalities, which can be quite a challenge bu
t that's how i like it.
do you prefer to play a specific gender? why or why not?
yeah, i usually stick with girls because i understand them mu
ch better cx i feel like i would fail as a guy, even though i do
have male characters and use them sometimes.

do you prefer to play a specific gender? why or why not?
i had to post lol. to me the "i can only play girls because i'm a girl" argument is completely crap. like spiff said, it's roleplaying. you're supposed to test limits and explore writing in a way. i'm a girl and most of my favorite characters are guys. a lot of writers wrote characters of the opposite gender. i understand that some people are nervous and avoid it but by doing it you learn. trial and error people. especially in onexones, when i see someone who says they play only girls because yada yada, i skip them without reading the rest. i find that with onexones you have a change to improve and test the waters since a) they usually last longer and b) you can find a person who will either be patient or guide you. i've told these kinds of people multiple times that they need practice and that i won't care if they suck because i understand that it's a new thing for them. yet they still refuse. to me, being able to write both genders (at least to some extent) makes you a much better writer. same goes for sexualities. the message is: DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT WHEN WRITING. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT. ok, i'm done.
i got off track. to answer the question: no, i don't have a gender preference.

@aurie + spiff
just for everyone's sake, you can get Adobe for free (aurie: but i think newer GIMP will actully have more features than an older PS). the company is offering CS2 products (which are 10+ years old) for free permenant download on their site (and for some time too!). i personally have used PS CS2, and it isn't too different, especially if you're just looking at doing some transparent stuff. CC and CS6 is just "smarter" (so you are lazier imo). the only program i actually reccomend puchasing CS4+ is Illustrator.
also for reference, if anyone does use PS to make signatures, the best compatible width to choose is 700px, and you're best off having a seperate page of alt codes out because copy-pasting symbols won't work. there's a font that supports most of the symbols, but i'm not sure if it is custom content. PM me for any help c:
i would love if we had a image form competition, like no coding, but just an image (even users without the program can just screenshot their coding), so that we look just at the aesthetics, not the complexity of the coding.
Edit: just to add, the LARGEST a form can be that complies with CS one-image rule is 600px c;
