Where do you cosplay? Conventions I guess?? I haven't quite cosplayed yet other than dressing up as a Griffyndor student at a recent convention in my town.
Do you buy your costumes, or make them yourself? Kinda both, depends on what I'm doing.
What was your first costume? Zuko will be my first real cosplay, which I will be doing in April.
What is your favorite costume that you've done? Zuko probably will be xD
What is your favorite costume that you've seen someone else do? Gamora/Starlord. There were so many Starmora couples at the last convention I went to it was awesome.

You'd think am activity meant to celebrate the love of all things pop culture would be free of this sort of crap. But, I suppose, it's not.
What double standard am I referring to? Here's a hint: one of the above is celebrated, while the other is vilified and hated on.
It seems that black people can cosplay white characters, while white people cannot cosplay black characters. It really ticks me (and others off). To use an example, an online acquaintance (a fellow cosplayer) wanted to cosplay as Shuri from Black Panther. She really liked the character. Everybody else, however, hated the idea. And yet, if she were black and wanted to cosplay, say, Sleeping Beauty, everybody would encourage her.
I just don't understand the double standard -- especially since she wouldn't do blackface (which a fair amount of the other forum posters seem to think she'd do)...

Literally no one is saying you can't cosplay a black character as a white person. You just can't darken your skin for it. If she wants to cosplay Shuri then go for it literally no one is stopping her. As long as she does so respectfully (i.e. not blackface) then who cares?

two weeks to go
I've got two cosplays pretty much done, need to do suit ups and see if they need fixing or anything at some point. The third one I started recently - the White Violin from the Umbrella Academy. Can I just say, finding a violin is harder than I expected! But I may have one, will find out tonight, and then I just need to find clothes. I got my wig and did a makeup trial last night, that was fun. and my amazing aunt is giving me money to get an optometrist appointment and contacts! Little stressed what with University happening as well, but I got this. I got this. Yeah. heh. I got it....

Hello friends~

I'm working on a faun cosplay from Pan's Labyrinth. For the face, I'm planning to use makeup, and wanted to use some sort of latex/prosthetic or something to make exaggerated spirals that he has on his forehead. Has anybody worked with liquid latex before? Any tips or product suggestions? Or any other ideas for what I could do?

Me: thought I was done con crunching
Me: plays obscure indie mystery game
Me: Sees I have character select coming up that I don't have a set costume for (character select is a games themed cosplay event in my city)
My brain: FORK me, I guess I'm crunching another cosplay

thankfully the costume was pretty simple and could mostly be either thrifted or compiled from stuff from my wardrobe
all I had to make was a hooded sweater dress which I finished a little after midnight
the Character is Aether from Exit/corners (It's a good game but one don't recommend lightly due to some of the content)

So...I'm in a bit of a pickle. For my second day at Supanova, I'm merging two characters into a fusion cosplay -- Hanji Zoe from AOT, and Mari Makinami from ROE.
What would I do for eyewear? Hanji has square silver goggles, and Mari has red glasses.
What would I do for hair, also? Hair's the right colour, but how would I style it? Zoe has a loose fringe and a high-ish ponytail, and Mari has low twintails.
Should I wear the AOT jacket over the plugsuit, too, or would that be too much?
What's a girl to do...?
