I actually do like Martha - she wasn't really one of my favourite companions but still. Not sure why people don't like her, maybe because she was a bit desperate for the Doctor to love her?
That is exactly the reason. Martha was smart, talented and sarcastic, she cared about people and she was brave and determined. But she was also missed potential. Because she had all of those characteristics, but still spent the majority of her time pining after the Doctor. Her unrequited love story arc makes me want to kick babies and it makes it very hard for me to love her, even though she is really fantastic when she's getting a quick snark in or solving a problem. She just swings from fantastic back to "whyy don't you love meeee?" too quickly and I can't stand the characterisation :/
Donna is a breath of fresh air after all of that.

Lol, yes. I bet Jackie-boy would xD
About Martha. I really love her. And I kind of like the storyline set out for her, I mean come on... she travels with the doctor, of course she falls in love with him... I like how that is written out and by god her last words to him. The story about the girl. 'Get out'. It makes me shiverrrrr. Martha is one of my favorites, I prefer her over Donna because... she does look up to the Doctor more... and I can relate to that... he ain't just some 'Alien-boy' he is......... o_O 'The DOCTOR'
So that's why I love Martha, because she loves him with all her heart, and still is strong enough to see that she shouldn't, and strong enough to make her decision against her feelings. And on Torchwood... well she is just total Awesomeness.
Nuff said xD

Yeah, I have a feeling that Jack wouldn't like 11 very much. Mostly because of the whole fashion sense thing (what would he think of bowties if he doesn't even like sonic screwdrivers?), but also, I doubt that Jack and Rory would get on well. Mostly becasue he'd be flirting with Amy right away.
As for Martha VS Donna, sorry, but Donna wins. It's close, but I LOVE Donna. She is my favorite companion next to Jack. I liked Martha, I liked her episodes a lot. But she was always trying to ge thte Doctor to love her, wheras Donna treated him like any other guy, which I think that he really needed.

Jack could flirt with Rory, too...XD
I have nothing to say about Martha and Donna. Just that I have no bias against any companions.

I missed the whole "why don't you love me?" stuff the first time I watched Martha's run. I caught a little of it in Human Nature/Family of Blood, but other than that, I was totally oblivious. Then someone told me about it and I noticed and it kinda ruined her a little for me.

Personally I think that Martha is a generally good character but I think she should have came in a later season. Ten was already so upset over losing Rose in the previous episodes that he couldn't have really given Martha a chance even if he was interested in her that way. So the whole "Why don't you love me?" thing just seemed a bit cliche and ruined her popularity I guess. After leaving the Doctor she definitely became more of an interesting character.
