That beautiful song... I could just barely make it out, but I could just catch it in my ears as the wind buffetted against my face. The cold artic around me seemed to melt away to a hot summer day as I pushed through the snow towards the sound. It got stronger. It was a sweet, soft lullaby, sung by the most gentle voice, the most beautiful. It seemed to have been hundreds of years old, yet only young at the same time, as though the wise and naive had come together as one. As I made my way over a hill, I stopped. Those eyes... They were so green, like a blade of grass on the most gorgeous spring day...
Slowly, the singing stopped. She too, just studdied him. "Hello..." Her voice was distracted. "Oh, um," she blinked a few times, shaking her head a bit. "Sorry, I'm Celestia... Who might you be?" it was no wonder she sung so beautifully, because her voice was just as amazing as her singing. In fact, I couldn't manage to find a flaw at that point.
"Trey..." I answered, then found myself dumb for not saying it more smoothly. "Um, you've a lovely voice, what was it you were singing?" I asked, making small talk(And not because I was intereted in her or anything.. Right?).
"The Lullaby of the Night" Celestia answered, voice sweet and smooth like honey. Still no flaws.
We talked for awhile, mostly about how we got stuck in this maze of a snowland. Once you were in, you couldn't find your way out. I asked her where she came from at one point, but she avoided that question by asking me where I got the scar on me shoulder. I explained that I got in a fight, but I was mostely focused on why she hadn't answered.
Okay, so at that point I knew she could sing amazingly, knew her eyes were like a lush forest, and knew she was a complete mystery. No flaws, not one.
Still, we traveled together, through the cold and the painful. No matter how long we walked, no matter how painful the icy snow that hit against us, Celestia seemed as though she could travel on forever, never get tired. She was still a mystery to me, and still had no flaws... She was perfect in every way, but there was something about her... I could tell there was more to it then meets the eye.
"Celestia," I said quietly one night, while we took shelter for the night. "Where do you come from?" I asked finally, something I had pushed off asking for many cold days.
She turned her timeless gaze on me, ever so slowly. "Trey... Sometimes I wish I could tell you..." That was her answer. I finally got an answer, but it ended up to be an answer as though it were a riddle. We stayed quiet after that, not another word before we closed our eyes and fell asleep.
I dreamed that night... Dreamed I was far away in the past. I was in the midst of a battlefield, a grey storm raging above in the dark sky. I watched as many soldiers marched to their deaths, both led by two gorgeous queens, one with red eyes, another with green. All the soldiers had their swords and shields lifted, ready for the battle that, somehow I knew, they had been preparing for for many, many years. Both kingdoms advanced on eachother, and as they met in the middle of the battlefield, war fell upon them in a split second. And with that, I was opening my eyes to Celestias sparkling green eyes looking into mind, as she shook me gently to wake me.
"Trey, we must keep moving." Her honey-sweet voice was gentle, but I completely ignored it. I saw those two queens. I knew I was far in the past. No one lived that long, no one stayed so young that long. "You died that night. You died that night in battle against a rival kingdom. Thats why your so wise, but seem so young. Thats why I cannot find any flaws in you. But... But you didn't leave this place... You stead here... Why?" I watched as her eyes seemed to flash with so many emotions all at once.
"Trey... It truly is you. I've waited so long for you..." Her smile made me melt all over again, but I didn't understand what she was telling me... "I... I dont understand..." Somehow, I felt that I did understand, like some part of me knew, but I just couldn't grasp what she meant, why she had waited for me.
"I know you dont understand now Trey, but one day you will... Thank you. You've set me free. I know now that your at peace, and I can finally let myself be taken... Taken to the afterlife. Il see you again one day, but hopefully that day will be a long time from now, so that you may live your life very long." Her tail brushed my cheek slowly, and her gorgeous green eyes searching mine for a moment. "And I know you dont see them now Trey, but I have many faults... But you, Trey, were not one of them. Goodbye, il miss you, my love..." And those were her last whispered words, where her voice began to become one with the wind, and her soul was slowly whisked off, into the sky above.
Slowly, very slowly, the snows pressure lightened, until only a light snowfall fell down on me. The sun broke through clouds, as they were replaced by a blue sky. I hadn't seen a blue sky in a long time... It was her. She was doing this, I could feel it.
To this day, I still wonder what she meant, stll think about her. She'll always be my biggest wonder, my most wanted wish... My only love. I dont know why, but deep down, I knew I loved her that very moment I stepped over that hill... The very moment I heard that voice... The very moment I saw those eyes. I felt as though I had known her, all my life, yet she was so new to me, so mysterious. Maybe il never know what she meant, or maybe il find out one day, but either way... She'll always be my mystery, no matter what.
(Hm, thought I'd leave you hanging on this
