When buying a character, do you usually go more for the art than the design? Like, if it haves a quality reference?

I say that 'cause i think a lot of people buy the character more for it's good reference than the design, actually. Then, later, they can't develop the character right or don't like how it looks on other people's styles.

Personally, i go more for the design (i revamp most part of my characters/ refs, so that doesn't matter at all)

I personally could care less if it has a ref, or if it was made off lines or if it has art. If I feel a click with something I go for it, free lines or handmade lines; art or no art. I like to look for characters with ref's most because it helps me in ordering art. Though, if it doesn't have one that doesn't mean it's going to stop me from trying to get the character(s). ^^
