I'm about to begin the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. Has anyone else read it?

Just bought and read Brave New World by Alduos Huxley. Good book, in the same stream as 1984, The Giver, and Fahrenheit 451. Anyone know of any other good books similar to those?

Number the Stars is similar to The Giver. And there is also the rest of The Giver series. I'm not sure if you've read the other books, since not many know about them.

I'm positive there's another book I'm thinking of that's like 1984, but for the life of me I can't remember. If I do, I'll let you know.

We read Number the Stars for school some year. It was good, but I dislike reading novels in class. they just don't seem to have the same affect. I think the other books in the Giver series are Gathering Blue and Gossamer, but I may be wrong about that... Maybe the book like 1984 is Animal Farm? George Orwell wrote both of them...

Finished re-reading City of bones and city of ash.. Already knew for the most part what would happen, but I still forgot a lot as I read them years ago. Looking forward to reading the other three books :) Love this series.

I just got the second Inkheart book today!! :3 I've already read the series, but now I own the first two. Inkspell is my favorite, because we get to see the Inkworld.

Ahh, loved 1984. I would suggest We, the book Orwell inspired from for his 1984. I forgot the author, but it was russian. Also, as somebody already said, Animal Farm by Orwell might be good, but I only read the sneak preview at the back of 1984 so I don't really know.

If you haven't read Animal Farm, then maybe you should check it out. It's kind of the same idea as those books (twisted thing in control) but it's not science fiction-y or futuristic. It's a really quick and easy read, though, I read it in an hour or two.

I've been looking for a copy of We, but it's proving to be rather elusive. I also loved 1984. Brave New World was good, but seemed more unlikely and it also offered too easy of a solution to the Dystopian nature (not to mention the constant Henry Ford references). Other than that, it was great. Comparing Brave New World and 1984 was interesting, though. In Brave New World people are controlled with pleasure, and in 1984 people are controlled with fear.

I loved Animal Farm. We had to read it in class a while back (I wanted to read it anyway). I'm actually rereading it right at the moment.
