What kind of designs appeal to you? Reason why? Is it the species? the color schemes? etc?
I love simple designs first and foremost haha. I'm forgetful so if my character has too much crap on it I'll probably forget three quarters of the markings and stuff (also complex characters are heck to draw okay if it weren't for commissions I wouldn't draw complex characters at all lol)
Colours: I love natural-looking and dull, muted palettes. I'll take a bright accent colour if it fits nicely with the design, but I'm not a fan of designs that are bright and unnaturally coloured all over. (Also I'm a sucker for earthy tones hot dang)
Species: ANYTHING BUT CANINES LOL sorry I know canines are super popular but they're so overused and noooo. I have a few canines myself but I try to keep them to a minimum ;A; I absolutely love reptiles, ungulates, birds and fish though, and of course unique original species are always fantastic. (when I say unique I do not mean a mix of two different animals or like a dog with wings or something. Because i've actually seen people try to market the aformentioned ideas off as "closed species" and it disgusts me. I mean well thought-out and developed species)
Themes: I love things based on medicine, plant life, math and pretty much every field of science! Creepy things are a bonus too, but only if they're subtly creepy. I'm not a fan of characters that have like blood dripping from every orifice in their body, for instance, because it's just laying it on too thick and way too "in-your-face" creepy. Also things based on mythology and cultural stuff like that is love. However, I'm not a fan of extremely overused concepts (like dessert adoptables oh my god) too much unless they're a very unique spin on an extremely overused concept (a friend and I made parody food adoptables once and it was glorious)
