Ah, parentheses. I sometimes have trouble with them too, actually.

Here is some more info to add on to what's been said. [Basically this is my go-to site, haha.]

talking about grammar, something I found really interesting from roleplaying, is the use of commas when making a list.

In my language, when we ad "or"/"and", we don't use a comma- "you have eggs, flour or butter?"
In English, you have to use it- "you have eggs, flour, or butter?"

I still find it strange whenever i see it.

And I find it strange without the comma. XD
I guess it's just because we were raised seeing it one way.
When I see no comma, I automatically think it's incorrect.

It's actually grammatically correct either way. I was taught in american schools that it was correct both ways, at least

The first way is correct if a conjunction connects the last two items in the series, but it's still encouraged to include the last comma.

@Pie A LOT happened. First, uh, I think we talked about character names? Then.. um... then we started with grammar. Oh, and, this new RP site came up! Oh, oh, and we talked about the [stupid] need some people have for even numbers in EVERY RP.

Maybe [just maybe, i haven't checked, and i'm not sure] because the American English has been heavily influenced by Spanish, where they don't use comma at the end. Again, not completely sure, but it could be because of this.

But really, roleplaying made my English grade rise, it has helped me a lot.

Roleplaying is a surprisingly educational activity. My grammar has improved greatly since I started roleplaying.

Guys, if I hadn't started roleplaying, I probably wouldn't even be on these forums. Then I would have never met you wonderful people. umu A bleak thought...

Roleplaying basically whipped me into shape, haha.

Okay, what you guys are talking about it the Oxford Comma. (ahaha I know things).

It's under debate. I use it whenever I feel like it (in lists that contain confusing terms, usually). Alas, my favourite example for this may not be CS-safe... probably is. Just not the picture.

WITH the Oxford Comma: We invited the strippers, Hitler, and Stalin.
WITHOUT the Oxford Comma: We invited the strippers, Hitler and Stalin.

Because ambiguity can really stink, the Oxford Comma is awesome.

For me, roleplaying has mainly kept my writing where it was several years ago, before I stopped taking English classes. ^-^ Roleplaying is extremely educational (the way we do it). And you guys! You guys are awesome. :3 Without roleplaying, I'd be hanging out with much less interesting people. Word.

(Also, why is there no one on Chatzy? o.O)
INSANELY BUSY!
I am moving! For the next month or so, I am going to be so very busy.
If I'm on here, it's because I'm unwinding with writing or pets or whatever.
Please do not add to my stress, if you can. Your support is appreciated.
