This is a repost from my farewell letter in the discord, but now that I have finished everything up on CS I figured I'd send it here as well.
Hello Kalon Community,
Some of you may know me, some of you may know of me, and some may not know me at all. My name is Karmel and I have been a part of Kalons for almost six years now. In the Fall of 2016 I found myself joining a website called ChickenSmoothie when I was desperate to be a part of anything during a bad mental health crisis. I was looking for friends, community, a sense of being, and more. I just wanted to feel connected to something and someone. I quickly found Kalons after joining, rather by chance. While I have seen adoptable communities from the outside I had never participated in one. I decided to give this one a go.
I quickly fell in love. So much so that I wanted to immediately be on staff and help drive this community through my art. I created my first artist entry on November 6th, 2016. It was rough to say the least, but I took my chance. I think I made a total of thirteen. But it was actually from doing growths for the community that I gained traction. I started to quickly pump them out for people with accuracy and I believe that’s what in the end got me hired as a main artist on December 5th, 2016 where I posted my very first main adopt for the species. When I started to feel more comfortable, I did my first ever nursery batch a few days later on December 9th. Since then, it was a whirlwind.
I made so many friends, met so many great people, and had such a wonderful time as a staff member helping out the community that kind of saved me from myself. When the chance arose to become a co-owner of the species I jumped on the opportunity. In May of 2017 Wicc and I rose to the positions of owners together, the start of what I felt to be a positive and exciting journey for the species. Together with our incredible members of staff we updated, adapted, and built the species into something really special. I was so lucky and so honored to be a part of that growth.
Eventually life happened, and my pursuits in life shifted. I had more responsibility at work through promotions, dogs whom I consider my children to take care of, family matters, and more. I could no longer dedicate the time to the community that it deserved. Two years after owning the species, I stepped down and retired in May of 2019.
While it was sad to leave behind the staff I had grown to adore, I didn’t regret it as I had so many fond memories and good friendships to take with me when I departed. I knew the species was in great hands and I wasn’t afraid to let it go. The people I worked side by side with had it covered, as they always did, and it was great to watch the species grow under their care instead of mine.
Now, it’s time for a different retirement. I haven’t been an active member of this community for a while. It’s mostly due to life outside of Kalons that keeps me busy and occupied. It’s time to leave for good I think. So this is my official, actual retirement. Soon I will be leaving the Discord and no longer logging in to ChickenSmoothie. I don’t feel like much connects me to either anymore, and don’t have the time to rekindle what was lost.
I am taking my darling Kalons with me and will continue to develop them in my precious medieval/fantasy AU world that I’ve been cultivating for years now. I am excited to focus on my characters, and stop myself from hoarding more through batches and trades lol. If you want to develop with me for friendships, relationships, or likewise feel free to DM me! It’d be nice to set some things up. Anyway what I want to say most is thank you. Thank you guys for helping me find myself. Thank you all for being so good to me always. Thanks for giving me something to be a part of when I needed it most. Thank you for continuing to let this species thrive. Thank you for it all. <3 I have appreciated every moment. I wish you all only the best!
