What common grammar and/or spelling mistakes in replies just drive you batty? For me, it's when people say 'alot'. It is two words! I know one that bugs many people is putting 'of' instead of 'have'.

"Alot" vs. " a lot"
"Everyday" vs. "Every day"
"They're" vs. "There" vs. "Their"
"Affect" vs. "Effect"
"Its" vs. "It's"
And other things
And when people misspell or make a grammar mistake in the title of their rp that immediately turns me off--especially if the title says 'semi lit' or higher. Actually, if a mod of an rp says an rp is semi lit or higher and says on their own rules they want perfect mechanics, that immediately puts me on high alert for any mistakes on THEIR part. If they make a ton of them in their rp intro posts, I don't join. It's like: so you want perfect spelling/grammar from everyone but you can't manage it yourself?

Asian, so true. I type a lot from my phone, so I know weird things come through sometimes. I tend to be fairly forgiving of minor mistakes, as long as they are not constant, in my face problems.

Affect vs. effect! That one gets me, as well. The thing that happens to something is the effect. "The book fell on his head, affecting his vision." "The effect of the book hitting his head was seeing stars." 'Affect' is generally a verb, while 'effect' is usually a noun. If -ed or -ing can apply, it's a verb, and you most likely need to use 'affect'.

A weird one that bothers me is 'have' v.s 'got'.

"I have got to go." is so improper. "I have to go" is correct. 'Got' means you actually attained something. "I got the loaf of bread" means you went and grabbed it at some point in the past. You do not have to currently possess it. "I have the loaf of bread" mean it is currently your possession.

That, my friends, is Harle's grammar lesson for the day. xD Who wants to bet I mistyped something in this post and made a fool of myself. You'd probably win that bet. Hehe!

You have to remember, though, Harle, that some people type the way they speak. Though it may not be correct, users often roleplay using their regional dialect.

I often say "I've gotta go," even though that may not be the correct usage. It comes down to using slang, and writing naturally, or being perfect with your grammar and sounding stuffy.

Grammar:
It's vs. Its; This certainly bothers me, but I don't mind the occasional mistake with this, I just have to reread the sentence a few times to get what they mean, and that wastes my time.

They're vs. there vs. their; This is probably the only grammar mistake that actually irritates me! This EVERYONE should know, even if you never went to school (actually in Australia, well where I went to school, you learnt this when you were five years old...If a five year old can do it, why can't everyone else?-.-) this should be learnt just by being around others.

Another one which hasn't been mentioned yet; When people write 'right' instead of 'write' or even 'white' that is a really irritating mistake.

For spelling mistakes:
Affect vs Effect; Really doesn't bother me, in fact, I usually get confused with this.
I have mild dyslexia so it is extremely difficult to tell the two apart.
So since I struggle with that myself, I don't care if someone gets it wrong.(I can't tell if they have or not anyway.XD)

So I'm more lenient with that sort of thing, as I completely understand that some people can't help it because of medically diagnosed difficulties.

I do tend to get a little annoyed when people spell 'ph' words wrong.
Like instead of 'phantoms' some people write 'fantoms' or something like that.
'Faroh' or something along those lines, instead of 'pharaoh'.
'feasant' instead of 'pheasant'.
'few' instead of 'phew'.
'fone' instead of 'phone'.
I can't be bothered listing more words, but you get the idea.

I don't mind a few mistakes, we're only human after all, but continuous mistakes every post/reply; does get annoying after a while.
Although I understand if people are posting with their phone.
There are bounds to be plenty of mistakes with a phone post, particularly if you have a bad phone.

One thing that's different, but related to this; I hate how when I spell something the Aussie way, people (usually Americans) say it's spelt wrong. When I know it's the absolute correct spelling for over here. I'm not about to write the way they do just because they think they're right.
When I get told off for this; it really ticks me off.

I agree with Aqua(I can call you that right?); some characters actually talk/think like that, it's just how people are, so in a way, depending on the character, saying 'I have got to go' (and similar things) could be the accurate thing to say for that character.
So you do have to take in how that character actually is, before deciding they've done something wrong.
I think I may have written a little too much.XD

EDIT: Whoops, stupid me, I put 'affect vs. effect' in the wrong spot... I fail.
It's fixed now.:3

i had a winter/romance roleplay idea, and i wanted opinions about it.

it would consist of 5 girls and 5 boys. there would be the group of the girls and the group of the boys, the girls doesn't know the boys and the boys doesn't know the girls. they are two separate groups who meet due to reasons i'm still thinking about. the characters would have a "stereotype": the fun one, the flirty one, the jock...and same with the girls. you'd have to base the personality around that adjective. forms would be very short, by the way. also, the relationships would be already set, ie: i'm already pairing the characters with a best friend from the group, the person they like less from their group, the girl they like the most and the girl they like the less [same with the girls]. however, before i decide the pairings, you may pm me with preferences c:

i'd really like a plot twist like gay romance between the boys or the girls, not just straight romance.

    well, opinions, critique, interest?

Not to be rude, light, but I already kind of suggested that.
Now, if I make up a plot and post it, people are going to say I am the one that stole your idea. I don't mind that you made it before me, but I don't want people accusing me of that.

i find hard that you accuse me of stealing your idea when :

    - one: i came up with this inspired by another rp which has nothing to do with winter romance, just with the premade relationships between characters.

    - two: my roleplay isn't about couples, is about relatioships, and with relationships i mean friends and enemies.

    - three: i can find many winter roleplays in the forum, that doesn't mean i went and took their ideas because we have the idea of making the setting in a specific season/location. same goes with the romance plot, mainly all the roleplays in the realistic forums are roamance based.

    - four: i guess i'll have to turn the gay/lesbian slots down, because it was your idea.

never mind. not making it. a good way to solve this.

Oh, no no no! I'm not accusing you of stealing my idea at all! I just wanted to make sure that no one said I copied off of yours, that's all >.<
I didn't want to make a plot that was similar, and have everyone be like "OMG, she stole it from light.!"
I'm basically covering my own ass, so that I don't have everyone getting on me about it.
