Nope. In fact, I have two boys myself. Merr and Wolf.
For a long time I was quite against having more than one sona, as I believed exactly what some of the others here do... One person, one representation of said person, and to some extent that's still true. I've never agreed with the "this is my good side, this is my bad side" or happy side/sad side whatever, as that can all go into one. It's a little odd in my opinion to have those separate, as it creates a very one-sided character... But that being said, I have my two.
Wolf is me. I'll say that now. Merr is something slightly different. So really, Wolf is my fursona... but I wouldn't know what to call Merr, so he's one as well. He has been with me for so long than he really is a part of me. There are many differences between us, but I couldn't possibly let him go. Call him whatever you like, but he's a piece of me, rather than a representation of me, like Wolf is.
So all in all, two is fine by me. Three, four, five... Have as many as you feel comfortable having. Though I think more than three is pushing it a little bit, that's just my opinion. I've seen some people struggle with two, and some people thrive with many more. It's up to the individual at the end of the day.
Do you think a sona should have a similar background as their creator or have a full on story that has no connection to its creator. Example being an orphaned sona raised on the bad side of the streets while the creator has a great family lifeA character is there because you can control its life, so making it exactly the same as your own would lack creativity, but I agree that the backgrounds should have similar themes. The more carefully woven in, the better, as it ties the sona in with you, but in a way that you would feel comfortable sharing. Merr's background is vastly different to mine, and yet I can tie in many of the things in his history to my own. It's not all physical things that have happened, but sometimes it's acting on the way I felt.
For example, Merr grew up without a father. Different to me, as I did have my father there. But only physically. My dad was only occasionally actually "there" in essence, he would shut himself away in his room and I'd barely see him. So I chose to have that in Merr's history as a dad that wasn't there completely.
