Yeah sure! I may make a new topic for the adoptables so this one doesn't get too crowded...
Also I would need someone to make some linearts (beluga whale, orca whale, humback whale, dolphin)

Thought I would post this:
Why do they kill the dolphins?

Officially, the main purpose of the dolphin hunt is to provide dolphin meat to the Japanese people. But only a small minority of people in Japan actually eats the meat. During our many campaigns in Japan, we even got the impression that dolphin meat is considered "trashy," unlike the much more expensive whale meat. DNA tests on meat labeled “whale meat” in Japanese markets have revealed the meat is in fact falsely labeled dolphin meat.

There is another essential, and rather shocking, aspect to the dolphin hunt: During a meeting with the Taiji fishermen in January 2004, the fishermen told us that they do not only hunt dolphins for their meat or for sale to the dolphinarium industry. In their own words, they kill the dolphins "as a form of pest control." The dolphins, from the fishermen’s perspective, eat too much fish, and the fishermen are simply killing the competition. This is the first time ever that Japanese dolphin hunters have openly admitted to executing pest control on dolphins. Over-fishing of the oceans is a tremendous problem on a global level, and the Japanese fishermen, supported by their government, are wrongly pointing at the dolphins as the reason for this depletion. The Japanese government is making the same false argument in front of the International Whaling Commission that whales eat fish and therefore need to be controlled by killing. The desire to keep the dolphin population down is a major reason why the Japanese government is so keen on issuing permits for the hunts. It is not really about providing meat for the Japanese people. It is not really about maintaining what the fishermen repeatedly refer to as their "tradition or "culture." It is about eradicating as many dolphins as possible in order to make the oceans' fish available to themselves.

In addition, the powerful Japan Fisheries Agency promotes the killing of dolphins and whales as part of Japan’s “food culture”, despite the fact that few Japanese are interested in eating whale and dolphin meat anymore, and huge surpluses are kept in refrigerated warehouses. The Agency sees their role as protecting the Japanese people from the consequences of overfishing worldwide – if environmentalists shut down whaling and dolphin killing, then other Japanese fishing methods and species will be attacked. The whaling staff of the Japan Fisheries Agency has an additional very personal incentive: sale of whale meat and government subsidies to protect whaling pays for their salaries. If whaling and dolphin killing end, these bureaucrats will be out of a job.

That is a quote from the Save Japan Dolphins website under FAQ.
This is talking about why the Japanese Fishermen kill the dolphins.
It is really sad because as I am pretty sure I said before, they are killing the dolphins as a form of "pest control" as it says in the quote.

That fact never ceases to disturb me. I have read it over and over, but I still can't see how a group of people can view cetaceans as pests. It just makes me sick.

it drives me crazy how people think that everything is theirs to claim. and it's not, it's everybody's, animals included. everyone is entitled 2 the world... no 1 owns it . people don't own the fish or the ocean. they don't own the forest or the skies or the mountains. saying the dolphins eat there fish is ridiculous .

To add to it the dolphins can only eat smaller marine creatures while we can eat almost anything.

Wow. This is horrifying :\ It's also the overfishing and the "illegal" fishing that's been going on. If you haven't noticed already, the oceans are getting more and more empty because of humans - aka me + you. Dolphins in fact are known to help the fishermen by leading the fish into nets and eating only a few. Pests? Well they're FAR from pest. However, we wouldn't know how the fishermen feel because we aren't doing what they're doing.

But if you think about it, it's a tradition in Japan. We can't hate them for that, I mean, they also create lots of our technology and cars. People fish for a living. If it's banned, their families will go hungry :\ and therefore another problem. So before you put up the "no whaling/dolphin-ing" sign, you have to think about the fishermen too..

However, I don't like the fact that they're hunting dolphins because they're "pests". But anyway, other people see it a different way too :\

Yes I agree with all of you, how could they categorize dolphins as "pests"? Dolphins NEED to eat too! No one calls us pests is we eat cows or chicken or pig, etc. (unless your a vegitarian). That is a very stupid reason for killing dolphins. Saying their pests and "killing all of the competition" by eating fish is horrendous!

Fishing is a Japanese tradition, your right, but dolphin killing is not. The fisherman can still fish thats not our problem. Our problem is the fisherman are killing dolphins. But we aren't hating the fisherman for fishing. We are hating them for killing dolphins for no reason. And like it was said in thw quote, dolphin meat has mercury in it which is toxic and dolphin meat is considered "trashy".

Yes this is very disturbing. What also disturbs me is that most people in Japan don't even know the fisherman are doing this! Everything about The Cove is horrifying.

We kids can do something about this. We can tell everyone about this, then they'll tell more and so on. And then sooner or later there will be people who will stand up to all this!
