@elders: According to Google, cats live for four to five years on average--in the wild. Now, with the clans, they're going to live about twice that because of the support system--so about nine to ten years. Due to all the stress, disease and injuries they face, I would assume that few cats actually live to be senior warriors (which in my universe, are six years or older). Then, cats would be allowed to retire at about seven years old, although they'd probably refuse due to pride. The few that actually survive to "true" elder age would be eight or nine...or about 96 moons, far younger than 100+ moons. Also, elders probably wouldn't live far beyond their retirement (maybe two to three years at most) because they would be more prone to disease and injury, especially after a very hard life as a warrior. There's my case for having the minimum elder age being at about 72 moons! Of course, most cats would likely retire at a later age, closer to 90 moons like hazil pointed out.
@Arya: Leaders could totally retire, but I would think that most would tough it out until their deaths because of how hard they worked to become a leader. I doubt that most leaders have tragic deaths unless they die during wartime or other hardship. In my opinion, most would succumb to disease or old age because the nine lives grant them a greater chance of living to be of elder age, even if they don't retire.
