Quote Yana Toboso, Black Butler, Vol. 1 & 3:
Red: People say that a ruby shines red no matter what colour light you shineon it. It absorbs any kind of light, changes it to red, and sparkles. A "red" that asserts itself, no matter how its environment changes. A colour that is different from black, completely dissimilar. I'll be happy if you can feel that intense "red" in the black-and-white world of manga.
Black: I like black for clothes, small items, and jewelry. It's a colour that can't be violated by any other colours. A colour that simply keeps being itself. A colour that sinks more somberly than any other colour, yet asserts itself more than all other cours. It's a passionate, gallant colour. Anything is wonderful if it transcends things, rather than being halfway. I'll be happy if everyone feels such manliness from
Black Butler.
