well no reason really
just because apparently it's cute so you guys might like it? :'D mebbe
School was over for the day. Finally.
Loptr heaved a silent sigh of relief as he took the first step past the school gates. As usual, he was one of the first ones off the premises, having power-walked his way from French to the exit. And again, as usual, he was on his own for - Loppy gave his watch a discreet glance as he heard hurried footsteps coming towards him - less than five minutes. He almost rolled his eyes. Newton was nothing if not punctual.
"You... said you were going... to wait for me," Newton panted as he came to a stop beside Loptr, bracing his hands on this knees and drawing in deep breaths, "I saw you walking. I had to... run really fast to catch you. Didn't you... hear me shouting?"
Loppy gave Newt a look of slight annoyance, "I don't listen when people shout. I'm not a dog."
Newt frowned, "I didn't say you were a dog." He straightened up, walking quickly to keep up with his friend's longer strides, "Did I?"
This time, Loptr really did roll his eyes, "No. You didn't."
"Oh," For a while, Newton lapsed into an uncomfortable - and unwanted - silence. But Loppy seemed happy not to talk, so Newt simply hummed under his breath and waited. And waited. It soon became apparent to him that Loppy was not in any hurry to spark a conversation.
"Umm, are you okay?" Newton finally asked, wringing his hands together awkwardly. "You seem..." The same as always: distant, quiet and permanently irritated by my existence "Angry. About something. Are you?"
Loptr kept his gaze focused on something that wasn't Newton, "Why would I be angry?"
Newt let out a small sigh, "Because you're always angry when you come out of school. If you just told me, maybe I could help you."
Taking Loppy's silence as a good sign, Newton continued, "So, what's wrong? Is it--"
"It's nothing, Newt." Loppy still stared at some spot on the horizon.
"But it obviously is. Please tell me, please let me--"
"Newton..." Loppy pressed his lips into a thin line and half-closed his eyes, "You can help me by just dropping the subject."
"No, I won't. Something happened at school and you need to tell me what. I want to help!"
"You can't help."
"What?" Newton shot Loppy an injured look, "I don't understand. Of course I can help. Please--"
Newt was sure he heard the click of Loppy's teeth snapping together. "I don't want to talk about it, Newton." He spoke through gritted teeth.
Swallowing audibly, Newt looked down at his feet, "Why won't you tell me?" He mumbled to his shoes, "Is it because it's something to do with me?" He snook a peek at Loppy out of the corner of his eye, and saw his friend looking down at him with a mixture of annoyance and confusion. "Why would it be anything to do with you?" Loppy asked on an exhaled breath.
Newt lifted one shoulder in a shrug, "Well if you won't tell me, then it has to be, doesn't it? What else could it be?"
For a second, Loppy was silent, and Newt was worried that he's pushed too far. But then he replied. "It could be a lot of things. I could be worried about school, had an argument with a friend... found out someone likes me who really shouldn't."
Oh. Oh. "Oh." Newt hesitated, "So which one is it?"
Loppy flicked his eyes at him with an expression that said do I really have to spell it out for you? And he didn't. Newt knew. "Oh," He said, "Okay." This time, it was him that didn't speak, even when Loppy tried to ask him something.
It seemed like the longest walk of his life. When Loppy finally stopped at the top of the drive that led to his house, Newt was convinced that they must have taken a detour somewhere. The walk never usually lasted that long. Well maybe you shouldn't have ignored Loppy, especially after he practically told you what he was upset about. Instantly, Newt felt ashamed of his anti-social behaviour. God, Loppy was rubbing off on him in all the wrong ways. And besides, what was he even annoyed about? He didn't care. Loppy could do what he wanted, with who he wanted.
"I'm sorry."
Loppy glanced around in surprise, and one corner of his mouth lifted into a wry smile, "About what? Being annoyed with me?"
Newton shifted from foot to foot, choosing his words carefully, "I... wasn't angry with you."
"Really?" Loppy rocked back on his heels, giving Newt a disbelieving glance, "You looked angry to me."
"No, that was my thinking face."
"Your thinking face. Right." Loppy snorted, "Well remind me not to get you to think when I'm around. You looked like you wanted to kill someone."
Newt allowed himself a small smile. That's what was so great about Loppy. He obviously didn't believe him - and Newt didn't expect him to, it was a pathetic lie - but he still went along with it so that he wouldn't feel uncomfortable.
"Newt?" Loppy waved his hand in front of his face, bringing him back to the present. Loppy raised his eyebrows, "I said 'I'll see you tomorrow'."
Newt nodded his head vigorously, "Yeah, definitely."
But as Loppy turned to walk away, Newt knew he had to ask him, or he'd be thinking about it all night. "Loppy?"
"Newt?" His friend replied without turning around.
Newt paused for a beat, and then spoke. "You know that friend? Do you, y'know, like them as well?"
Loptr turned back slowly, a peculiar expression on his face. "No, I don't. Not in that way."
"Oh, okay. I'll see you tomorrow then." He waved once at Loppy and span away, aware of his eyes on his back as he hurried down the road, a smile plastered across his face.
THE END? MAYBE.
oops sorry this is quite long I'm sorry :u
