Well when you think about it, there are so many different people, most if not all in different time zones, and all with everyday lives they have to deal with. It is very hard to get a random group of people online all at the same time, and even harder to get all of them to post. And then when people aren’t posting, the ones that are online get tired of waiting and go elsewhere, and then when the people who were gone finally come to post, no one is there to read it because they have moved on. I don't think that it is lack of interest in the role play; I just think that so many different people have their own time schedule. There are people who can get a post up in less than an hour and some people take a few days, and sometimes more. And then there are the little variables such as writers block, or too many role plays to respond to, or just flat out disinterest in posting at that moment. That’s why 1x1’s do so well, in my opinion. There are only two people involved, so communication about what each other are up to goes a lot better, and instead of 5 people waiting on someone’s reply, there is only one person who presumably knows what is going on because their partner let them know they would not be posting for such and such reason.

Now, if that made sense to anyone, you deserve a cookie.

Yes, yes I agree with you both. Of course, if the roleplay dies before you can actually start to create the story for the character, then I too have reused characters for other roleplays. Like Make_a_Scene said, it is when the character actually has a significant story that I refuse to put them into another roleplay to make another one.

@Artesian: I know! This is so annoying. It seems like the only group roleplays I have joined in the past have died within say... One page. >.> really sucks when that happens.... But fiasco pretty much summed up my thoughts on that too :3

@Glittermouse: I definitely understand what you're saying. It's really hard to get everyone online at once, which is why I usually fail at group roleplays... Things usually take off when I'm not online, and I get lost really easily. That's probably the big reason why I've stuck to 1x1s the past few years...

I'm pretty happy right now, as I just recieved a cookie (:
I understand what you mean, and agree - it's just hard
to get people from across the world together, plus
everyone is different, and posts at their own pace.
As well as that, some people may become grounded,
go on holiday or just have a lot to do, or just be museless.

I know that I am usually busy the whole week while in
school, especially in the last month of term and in
test weeks, which is about half of the term. So its very
hard for me to post in group roleplays regularly, either
because I have extra activities, or just get home late.
I usually find it hard o have muse after a long day as well.

That's just my case, but I'm guessing a lot of people have
at least some of these problems in posting.

And by the way, glitter - I have thought about my
one x one post, but I have a test tommorow, and
had one on Monday, and also have one next Monday,
so I might not find time in the weekend. I'll post as soon
as I can, however, sorry to leave you hanging.

I agree with scene :3 I make new characters for role-plays because I get so attached to them in that one role-play
But I do use the same name all the time. Rose and Jace being the most common xP
Sorry I don't have much to say, I'm sitting in civics before class starts xD

Whoa, guys. Whoa. I leave to take a test, and suddenly you've filled three pages without me. Only one option. I have to stop taking tests.

Typical Aquarius, that's pretty much exactly how I feel C: As for picture or bio first, is it sad that mine usually have no correlation to each other? l3 Sure, the body description, but as far as their personality goes, it kinda has nothing to do with their looks .u. Usually I'll type up a form, then go on a random picture hunt. Once I find a girl/boy that I think looks nice, I'll search for more pictures with their hair/eye color, or the face claim if I'm lucky enough.

As for why rps die out so fast, I don't know if this applies to anyone else, but for me it's usually the plot. Not the lack of it, but actually the appeal of it. As odd as that sounds. Basically, I love to create plots, develop them, read them and what not because I'm weird like that. Unfortunately this gets me in trouble because I was too busy/not interested enough/didn't really like the literacy level/etc in the first place, I just got excited over the plot and joined. I guess this could sorta happen with those rps that die out, the fascination with the plot runs out and thus people just don't see the point of posting anymore.
Though it's probably more because what glittermouse said with the real lives being so busy and location.

On to the character discussion! This is going to sound so stupid, but I only recently realized you could reuse characters. Yea, I know, feel free to laugh. I have no idea why, I just thought people would be irritated or angry with me if I tried to reuse anything about previous characters. I really don't know why cl Like it was this taboo thing you could get yelled at for if you were caught. So naive. Now however- since discovering the error in my thinking- I have been known to reuse pieces of characters; photos, names, personalities, histories, descriptions; but I don't believe I have ever actually reused a whole character. I kinda agree with Cloudsong, how they were each developed for their own little world >u>
I lurk mostly. they/no pronouns.

TOTALLY MADE SENSE.
GIMMEH MAH COOKIE.

And yeah, that's why I have more 1x1s than anything else
I just tell my partners that they post when they're up to it, and I'll be doing the same.
Works out beautifully, to be honest. ono

I find that this is very true... Usually when roleplays die, it's because of the plot in the first place. I tend to avoid roleplays (1x1s included) when the plot is something that is either primitive, or just unoriginal, because it's hard to write well when it's an idea that is repetitive and/or uninspiring. Sometimes I avoid them because I dislike the characters, and because of the other person's writing itself. It's so annoying when you put a lot of effort into a character, and then have to make him/her interact with a completely boring or too "perfect" character... Maybe I'm just really critical, but it's usually pretty obvious to me when someone puts little to no thought into character creation, and it shows in their writing. I usually make a very large effort to make my characters original/likable to myself, and on the few occasions when I did the opposite, I have had to quit the roleplay because I simply cannot stand writing about a boring character. x.x

      >> okay, I'm sorry, but to address characters that are hard to rp with: sometimes I really want to deny someone their character because I actually hate how they're made [like, they're too flat or something, or they're super cookie cutter], but technically they meet my literacy standards [w/ good grammar, spelling, length w/o fluff, etc.], and I'm like "welp. |:"

Re: The Semi-Literate+ Roleplayer's Club

Postby Placebo Effect » Thu Dec 06, 2012 9:43 am

I have a roleplay that has recently just hit 700 pages, and I was thinking of remaking it fr this club as a semi-lit one - since everyone seems to be saying rps die too quick.

It's a school of kids age 14-18, and also teachers who train the kids up to be demon hunters. These demons reside in a place called the Otherworld (because I couldn't think up a better name). Basically, demons used to fight angels, and after a while humans with anomalies started to appear - depending on the family, powers have been passed down through the years. The Kane family developed an anomaly that lets them teleport, the Storm family can create duplicates of themselves and so on and so forth.

It's kept going by events, when people start to get bored I drop an event that involves a lot of impossible logic but is hilarious fun.

If anyone is interested?
