aah, i'll do these! c:

have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
not...really? i have my own style that's influenced by others, but i'm not sure it's too distinctive, haha...

have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
well, i'm still learning so i try new things every time i code! one new thing for me would be boxes, and also the same gif cuts on seperate gifs.

what do you consider to be professional bbcoding?
    um, i'm not really sure! there's been some dicussion of using left columns; i've done that quite a few times but definitely wouldn't call myself professional!! ;;

and, um, i guess i'll give you guys some questions too!

    Code: Select all
what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?

    Code: Select all
how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!

    my answers to these:
    01. um...to be honest, i'm not really sure...? haha, i don't feel qualified to answer that
    02. well, i've just started coding, so,

    [ why did i pick questions i couldn't answer myself??? ;; ]

i love answering questions but hopefully this doesnt get too long...

have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:

i actually have not! my style is mostly my own with slight influences from others. i used to look to other signatures more when i was making them, but now that i have many techniques down i usually do my own thing. i think it wuld be fun to try someone else's style tho!

have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:

mostly just new setups. ive been making more edits/gifs as well and trying different effects on them (eg. the glitch gifs i made recently & the ones in my current sig that only loop once). coding wise ive done some more column within column stuff, which is fun..

What do you consider to be professional BBcoding?

when it comes to this i take into account image editing as well as setting up the code. people who come off as more professional use higher quality images/gifs and keep their signatures balanced between images and text. i dont have really specific answers to this but theres just a vibe you get from people that says "WOW theyre really good!!".

what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?

when colors clash; there are some color schemes that just look awful. also when things are too light/small to read. small text is apparently in, but its a huge stressor on my eyes if its too tiny...

how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!

i dont have many examples from when i first started. i mostly made simple signatures with simple overlays and there was often only three columns. now i know a lot more techniques and more about editing images & making gifs so i can do a lot more.

hey look at me
back so soon h a
answering questions are pretty fun tho c':
-
What do you consider to be professional BBcoding?
i,,,
i honestly dont know |DD
i guess, what appeals to the viewer visually like, sometimes a signature doesnt actually
have to be professional, but look professional??? like, if it looks nice or it looks hard to
mimic, then i would probably think, 'woa thats hard and hecka rad. now thats pretty
good coding.' something along those lines |DD something that is not in my abilities,
thats probably something i would consider professional personally uwu

what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?
when your signature looks fine in preview but when you go to your profile its eVERYWHERE
same with forum coding too, everythings all fine in the preview but bAM. ya done goofed.
and also like, there is only so much space in the preview leaving a small signature that does
not fill the whole forum space :'^)

how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!
wow ok i started coding in like, mid-2013?? and lets just. not go there ok whoops
but i do have one signature from what, late 2015?? im ashamed but he r e. but for present day well
look at me now. a bum
-
after seeing some people here say they havent tried another persons style
makes me curious to see if anyone, in the future or whatever h a, is willing to try somewhat a
challenge ;3c its simple but, we could switch styles for the day, make a sig or whatever, see how
that goes eh? try to mix things up a bit and give others a chance to expand on what they normally
do and learn a few things here and there :'3c but whoo. i actually did open up dA commissions tho
dang am i nervous to see how this is gonna turn out :'^00

I'm gonna answer some of the
questions bc why not (:

[ have you ever tried coding in another
person's/friend's style? if so, how did
it go?
]

I actually have tried .. didn't go so well

[ have you tried anything new with your
coding lately
? ]

I've been trying to, but nothing really
    worth showing/keeping lol

[ what do you consider to be professional
bbcoding?
]

quality mainly. gif/image quality and also
just kinda how everything fits together

[ what are some of your coding / signature
pet peeves?
]

hhhg, my main one [ for me ] is when I can't
get something right and I just give up. [ for
other people ] hmm, the image/gif quality
is really important to me most of the time

What are your pet peeve's in coding / signatures?
When I finish a signature and later on find an error. The OCD is real and I end up hating the work I did because of the error.

Have you tried another's / friends coding style?
No. Although I do admit I would like to one day. I just need the motivation and permission. But... I would kinda like for someone to try and do a signature based off mine as well, I would love to see that happen because I wonder how my signatures of old looked like for others.

What do you consider to be
professional BBcoding?

I don't. I don't believe there is 'professional BBC coding. There is professional graphic making for signatures, but for me I don't believe there is professional BBC coding.

To me, I believe that there is undeveloped and developed coding, that is kind of it (Professional when you are at the level of running a successful irl business on the profession and have made a true name for yourself.) That is not to say I condone the use of the term professional when it comes to coding. It just seems foreign to me because of all the skill levels there could be.

I don't believe there to be any signature in this site to be professionally done, not mine, not anyone else's. I do praise for professionalism when it comes to the acute dynamics that create the fundamental concepts and imagery a signature can portray, but this doesn't make the signature professionally made.

This is my two bobs worth, it seems like a negative given previous replies and I apologize for such.

i feel like its been a really long time since ive said anything here and i feel bad about it
lets change that ( ;w ;)

>>have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
every so often when i have no motivation i'll try to take inspiration from
some of you guy's styles or something but i never really try completely
coding in it,,, mostly because i can't its too great for me to replicate hah

>>have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
it's been a long time since i've done the same layout thing with more than
one signature, so yeah?? idk if that would be considered doing something
'new' the way i consider it though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

>>What do you consider to be professional BBcoding?
oh boy this question.. so i personally believe that bbcoding isn't really
"professional" in a sense?? to me it isn't really a profession,, (not considering
earning $CS for it) hence nobody can really become a professional in
it here to me (people might actually have paid jobs out there doing
bbcoding?? i havent heard of it but it could be out there i guess)

i do believe in expert bbcoding though. people who have vast knowledge
and confident ablility over this type of coding would be who i'd consider
as an expert most of the time. everyone has a different style of bbcoding,,
so looking at it from the aspect of the actual coding it took to make the
signature or form or whatever it is on here, or the information that person
shares in a way that helps others would make them an expert to me.
just what i think /) v ;)

>>how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!
i have escalated from not knowing what i am doing to not knowing what
i am doing with decent results! (; ´ ▽ `)b haha honestly though i can
say that i've improved in variety with my sigs and how long they take
to make i guess?? i used to use the same layout for every five signatures
and never really attempted to try other things and it'd still take me 4
hours to do.. it's not a bad thing at all if you like to do that ofc but i
didnt get better until i stepped out and did something i was uncertain
with // digs through the GARBAGE my docs for anolder sig from
god idk when and the remake i did for it 3 4? months ago

>>what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?
when it fits for you bUT IT DOESN'T FOR THE MAJORITY OF OTHER PEOPLE????
idk but i just get really upset when it doesn't look good when other people see
it and i'm unable to fix it so that everyone sees it the same due to their screens
and browsers and such hhhhhhhhh

wow that was rly long and sorry in advance when i don't say anything on here for
another 97 and a half months

What do you consider to be professional BBcoding?
i consider 'professional' BBcoding... say, someone who uses a very complicated layout, and they make it happen.
a text-based signature (opposed to image-based) would be more 'professional' to me in a way, using more symbols
and textboxes instead of using images to create placeholders? it's hard to explain!

what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?
when you find the perfect gif for your signature - but then if you'd crop it, it'd look
not as good as when you originally planned? or when you're all pumped, but then, after a while,
you give up! ah, i do that a lot...

how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!
ahaha! i laugh at my old signatures! i scream and point to them! look at this!
    Image
i tried to make two 400x400 images fit into a signature... orz
you can definitely see the change between my old signature and new one!

have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
hm, i've ought to give it a shot! i got a lot of inspiration from ZeyDaan, god, and .boot for my signature style today!
hehe, i don't really have a signature style though... asteria- told me that i have a style that looks simple and complicated
    at the same time?

have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
ev er y thing!! i'm trying to figure out how to make those nice, small text boxes. i've mostly mastered drop-lettering!
hm, but i need to experiment with gif overlays, or try and make a single-image signature.

    ooooh questions

have you ever tried coding in another person's/friend's style? if so, how did it go?:
i tried to kind of do that super pretty thing with quotes everywhere and all
people said the signature i made was really nice, and i think it really is, but it didn't look the way that my inspiration was from.

have you tried anything new with your coding lately?:
    ahahahhahaha
ever since that moment above, i've tried. i really have to thank the people that told me that some images were dingbats, and that they can be found on veer. it really boosted my signature presentation and coding skills, and really lead me to doing new, better layouts. i'm planning on another signature, which the concept is a bit ambitious for me, but i think it's a bit outdated. by that, i mean that the subject the signature was about, i'm not that obsessed with it anymore. i might try it later, but idk.

What do you consider to be professional BBcoding?
there's when people use dingbats, █ things, quotes in veer looking text, those ones. i absolutely love them, and i really think it's professional.
the only exception is if the person's sig is by someone who is super pro at coding. any of their coding works, professional in my eyes.

what are some of your coding / signature pet peeves?
when the whole thing doesn't line up and you have to change it so it does
just squinting your eyes through all the code is a bit of a nightmare
and you're trying to find those few errors
    rest in pieces

how have you improved, from when you first started coding to now? give us some examples, if you're able to!
    oh jees
    i've improved so much
    compared to two years ago
i have no examples which is fine by me
since i don't want to cringe in horror when i look at them

    hey, everyone! i'm back!
so, i actually have a question: is it normal for people to, like, switch from the sig you made them to another one??? ?? just a few days after you make the signature for the person??
help me i know literally nothing about this

They have the right and they can, sometimes they do.
I have had instances of that happening. I have made signatures for all kinds of users before who have done this and it definitely feels like a kick to the face, but they can do this if they want to. There is nothing you can really do about it, it is like a piece of art, the user can choose to display it or not. I tend to finish a transaction and then not really talk to a user again for a while so I don't keep track of how long they had a signature for. It is petty, I admit; the benefit of me doing this is so I don't feel demoralized that it is gone within a few days when it took me the same amount of time to make a signature.

Announcement REGARDING DIGITALLY DISTINCT ONLY
I updated the name of the forum to the "DD: Coding & Signature Tutorial/Help Thread". Hopefully this will encourage more users to post asking for coding assistance and encourage users to link this thread with helping users in the 'Forum help' section of the site since people are linking the outdated one and there is so many changes now it is insane.

I have been drastically lazy with this tutorial thread which sucks but I have finally updated the text manipulation section.
Scrolling down the Text manipulation section, you will find the following:
  • A bunch of new brackets:
      ⁅ ⁆ ⧼ ⧽ ⦃ ⦄ ⦅ ⦆ ⦇ ⦈ ⦉ ⦊ ⦋ ⦌
      ⦍ ⦎ ⦏ ⦐ ⦑ ⦒ ⦓ ⦔ ⦕ ⦖ ⦗ ⦘
      〈 〉 《 》 「 」 『 』 【 】 〔 〕
      〖 〗〘 〙〚 〛 ﴾ ﴿
      ❨ ❩ ❪ ❫ ❬ ❭ ❮ ❯ ❰ ❱ ❲ ❳ ❴ ❵
  • A new transparent line box bracket thing.
      xxxxxxxxxxx
      xxxxxxxxxxx

      Code: Select all
      ▛xxxxxxxxxxx▜
      ▙xxxxxxxxxxx▟
  • Gender based symbols
      ⚢ ⚣ ⚤ ⚥ ⚦ ⚧ ⚨ ⚩
  • Marriage and Death symbols
      ⚬ ⚭ ⚮ ⚯ ⚰ ⚱
  • Various other symbols
      ☘ ♾ ♿ ⚒ ⚓ ⚔ ⚕ ⚖ ⚗ ⚘ ⚙ ⚚ ⚛ ⚜

You will also notice that the Arabic and other letter based fonts have disappeared, this is because I found a website which has them all linked in the correct cultural group and in the correct syntax as well. I have since put this post:
HERE

I went through a lot of editing to put this list together, to test which symbols work on CS and which ones do not. The ones on this post are the ones that work. Please use these to your discretion and if there is any problems with the use of these letters, please take it up with the mods by sending a help ticket and explain the situation with links and otherwise.

Thank you all for your patience! I hope the front page of Digitally Distinct is somewhat more tolerable and user friendly.
I am on mobile.
