It's walking through the wood, on a cold, dark night, that you happen to smell delicious foods wafting gently out from ahead of you. In the depths of winter, it's almost obligatory for many cats to end up going hungry, and going weak from it, and you can feel the raw ache of hunger against your ribs.
You'd be a fool to turn down the opportunity for food on this starless night.
The moon is hidden behind clouds, although the warm yellow tone of it is still just visible through them, but even without it, the smell alone is plentiful information to guide you into the right direction.
Eventually, drawing near to the smell, the trees open out into a clearing.
And what a strange sight beholds you!
There's a long raised log (you know, that human thing, with the flat log supported by four small logs? Whatever is the word for it?) covered in copious amounts of food, if messy, a mix of foods for humans and for cats!
There's so much food, even, that it's flying through the air!
No, wait...
That would be because of the twelve cats already present, flinging it around.
They seem to be trying to hit each other, and using the opportunity of being hit to lick the food out of their fur.
It seems like an inefficient way to eat.
And they seem distracted, making now a perfect time to sneak in and steal some food! They're so preoccupied, that they probably won't notice you if you just make a break for it.
Okay.
You take a deep breath, wiggle your hind legs as a warm up, and launch yourself, looking like a kit that heard the sky-fires that humans like to set off this night, straight to the piles of food.
"Stop!"
You keep going for a few steps, until, the voice calls again, and a cat steps out in front of you.
"If you eat from the table, there'll be 13 of us here, and everyone knows it's unlucky to have 13 participants in a feast."
You're about to complain that you're hungry and it's so lucky finding this much food now that surely that counterbalances any bad mojo, when another voice interrupts; "Or... we could agree to involve everyone we can, so that there's far more than 13 of us participating?"
The other cats consider for a moment, before all nodding, and you can't help but wonder what on earth that means.⁂Rules:- As stands, you can only win one. If there are fewer than 12 entrants, then I'll work out what to do with the remainder separately.

Cat 1The Christmas Purrding cat is a longhair chocolate calico cat with low white and ticked tabby patches, and a holly leaf accessory. They have red/green heterochromia.

Cat 3The Pawnetone cat is a shorthair chimeric cat. One set of genetics is a chocolate spotted tabby with amber eyes, the other is a cream spotted tabby with green eyes.
They are a chimera, but this will not effect their fertility.
Either their mother is a tortoiseshell cat and they are male, or their mother is a tortoiseshell cat and polyromantic and they are female, or they are intersex; you may choose any of these three options.
