username; the journey wolf. midnight blue.
      date joining; April 1st, 2011
      posts made; 14070
      role-playing level; High semi-lit+
websites role-played on; I started roleplaying on Chicken Smoothie, and until recently, it is the only place I have done so. I joined Awesome Sauce not long ago and have started one role-play there. I'll soon have another.
categories applying for; animal role-playing, critiquing work, coding basics
      examples;
animal roleplaying; It's been about a month (if I remember correctly) since my last animal roleplay, but I do have some examples... a couple are from last year. Sorry I don't have any extremely recent examples... :/

      age ➸ eight moons
      gender ➸ female
      rank ➸ apprentice
      mentor ➸Spottedshadow
      crush ➸ unknown

      ➸ Young girl, don't cry.
      I'll be right here when
      your world starts to fall.
      Young girl, it's alright.
      Your tears will dry; you'll
      soon be free to fly.

Applepaw was grateful that Spottedshadow didn't seem to notice her shyness towards the subject of her son - or maybe she did notice and was just masking her amusement. But what if she wasn't amused? What if she didn't like the idea of Applepaw getting close to her son? That's just ridiculous. Applepaw thought to herself. You're over-thinking things again. Mentally scolding herself for letting her imagination get the best of her, Applepaw followed Spottedshadow to the patrol.

Applepaw lowered her head respectfully to the two warriors Nightsong and Stonepath. An easy-going banter was currently taking place between the two, but it soon developed into a more serious matter; Russetfur. Nightsong trailed off before his name was even spoken, but what she had implied was clear. The she cat's head dipped slightly as she paused to let her obvious sorrow sink in.

After the respectful acknowledgement of their lost deputy, Nightsong explained that she thought they should hunt near the camp. Applepaw contemplated the idea, throwing it around in her head as she pondered over any other options. The idea was that being closer to camp would keep them closer to Icestar, so if she needed any of them for any reason, they would be only a few breaths away. The plan seemed fool-proof, and because there was already a border patrol being organized, there was no reason for them to stray to far away from camp. Applepaw nodded subtly to herself, her own silent approval.

Applepaw glanced at Ivypaw, flicking her tail slightly as a greeting to the other apprentice. She blinked once at themk before returning her attention to her own mentor and Nightsong, wanting to learn as much as she could from the warriors.

Nightsong seemed to be a natural leader. Making orders, while sometimes appearing bossy, appeared to come to the she cat easily. On top of this, she seemed focused mainly on her duties to the clan, and Applepaw admired that in her. It was something she herself longed to be as she grew older. That won't happen if you keep questioning yourself, the voice inside her head was irritating, but right on so many levels. A leader should be sure of herself from the start, shouldn't she? Applepaw was constantly shooting her own ideas down and diminishing her self esteem without meaning to. She would need to do an awful lot of changing of her doubtful attitude if she ever wished to be something admirable like Nightsong.

tagging ➸ Spottedshadow, Nightsong, Ivypaw, Stonepath

      " A M B E R "
A warm breeze sifted through Amber's fur as he lied on the porch of his upwalker's white house. His tail twitched slightly, but no other movement could be discerned except for the occasional passing car or squirrel. The tom would usually be on his feet and jumping around like the childish cat he was, but the heat of the summer day was too much for even him. He had retired to his resting place after only fifteen minutes of playing under the scorching sun. He lied there, silently wishing away the heat as he glared out at the sun. His paws itched to be moving. His muscles ached from the position he was in. He needed to move.

Amber huffed before raising his russet tabby body off the wood porch and hopping down the steps quietly. He set out to find Frost, his white-coated friend who lived across the street. As he stalked across the yard, the yapping of a dog alerted him, and his ears pinned to his skull instantaneously. The black animal wasn't the largest of them, but it still couldn't be considered small. He glared at the creature as it went after a squirrel that had just shot up a tree. What a stupid creature it was, barking non-stop at the animal that was obviously not going to come down.

While the dog was distracted, Amber briskly walked towards the road where he sat and waited as cars passed by. One after the other they came and went, leaving dust flying behind it. When there was finally a break in the string of monsters, Amber darted across the cement road, the heat burning his pads as he went. On the other side, he shook out his fur and padded up the porch steps of Frost's home. He seated himself at the top of the steps and wrapped his tail around his paws as he watched for the white she cat.

          R u n e ; male - nearly four years
Watching the snow covered field, Rune spotted a movement in the frost-coated grass. It was fast and nearly imperceptible to the untrained eye, but the brute knew his eyes had not mistaken him. With his ears now shoved forward, he tried to make out any noises. Merely a second later, there was a squawk; not a loud one, but it was the unmistakable sound of a creature - an animal's prey - in agony. The sound was almost inaudible, but Rune still decided to investigate. He waited for a few moments longer, patiently watching as the wolf below adjusted it's position. This was enough to confirm that there was likely a kill, and Rune wasted no more time before he was padding down the rocky slope - his position of observation - and headed towards the commotion. As he neared the creature, Rune was able to discern what exactly he was up against. It was another wolf. His confidence was raised considerably when he realized that this was a small wolf, probably a female, considering her size and build. He approached cautiously, though, knowing very well what was at stake. He couldn't risk a serious injury when winter had just begun. Rune approached with a dominant posture, though he refrained from appearing too aggressive. Only if she resisted, would he take such measures. With his ears still perked up, and his tail straight in the air, he stood several meters from the female, not saying a word. He flicked one ear, eyeing the quail before he returned his gaze to the lone she-wolf.

      arrow
Lying under the sun, Arrow watched the quiet happenings of the day while pondering over his own daily duties. He should be out on a hunt, along with his pack-mates, but no group had been organised yet. Should he wait for his Denalis or Warrior to give out the order? Maybe. He wasn't sure, though. Most of the pack hadn't eaten in two days or more, and even then, the meal- if it could even be given such a title- was hardly a mouthful for each wolf. Arrow seemed more thin than usual, and even some of the heavier wolves in his pack were looking abnormally underweight. With these thoughts in mind, he briskly clambered to his feet and decided to search for one of his fellow hunters.

Arrow spotted Clover first. The white huntress was his age and youth was still apparent in her features. He approached her in his warm fashion, tail wagging lowly and his ears briefly flattening to his skull as a sign of respect. While they held the same social ranking, respect was shown to everyone in the pack, especially by Arrow. The she wolf could have been a subordinate and his greeting would not have changed.

"We need to go hunting." He pointed out, cutting off the rest of his greeting to state the obvious. He had no reason to take part in any sort of chat- not when he had a task at hand.

      ____________________________________________________

critiquing work; I'm curious as to what would be considered an example for this. I have critiqued quite a few works (both roleplay posts and short stories) in the past couple months. I do focus on writing style and characters, though. I can spot typos and such, but correcting grammar is not my forte.

coding basics; Just a moment c:

Yippee! We have our new instructors!

          Please remember that this was anonymous. We judged based on three things;
          1. finished the form on time
          2. my basis of literate [longer posts while maintaining the quality and it not being so fluffy]
          3. the quality of their examples

          Now, the instructors ...

          1. phenomenon
            - approved for
» critiquing work, developing plots, animal role-playing, coding basics

          2. iridescent.
            - approved for
growing users from semi-literate to literate, developing believable characters, coding basics

          3. 1000 umbrellas
» Critiquing work, Developing believable characters [late teens to thirties], Developing younger, out of the norm characters

Congratulations on getting the job, you three! Please pm me for further instructions.

Don't be disappointed if you didn't get the job. There are going to be plenty of spots along the way. Check back every so often and see what's going to happen here!

Scene's Seaside Rendezvous

Postby Make_a__Scene » Sat Mar 30, 2013 4:18 pm

{Let's Make A Scene
Image
Hello, all. Make_a__Scene here. I have many nicknames, but Scene and Sofa are most common. I'm not too particular, so you may call me whatever trips your trigger.

{Who are you and what credentials do you have that will help me?
I am a male college student living in the OC, renting a house with his three best bros. I have been role playing (and writing) since I was 12. (That's ten whole years!) I started off my role playing experience on a site called Neopets, back before they were owned by Nickelodeon. After that I bounced around a few forums that friends made, as well as an author's forum that had a role playing section for a while. Within that time period I went through several stages of writing. When I was 12 I used chatspeak all over my one-liner posts; I had many, many, mary-sue-type characters, and I was obsessed with making completely unrealistic characters. After that little phase I shifted to the other extreme. Purple prose everywhere. My prose was so purple that it might as well have been violet. Then I started really reading books. And I started reading amateur authors. I discovered that what I was doing was incredibly excruciating to read. So I stopped. I started writing in my own voice. How I would speak if I were the character I was portraying. And by the time I took my first creative writing class in high school, I could recognize things in other people that I myself did (or was still doing). I was always pretty hard on myself when it came to my writing, but I didn't actually start really critiquing myself until I was a junior in high school. I'm capable of writing single posts in the thousands of words range. However, I strongly believe in quality over quantity; there's no need to sacrifice the quality of your post just to meet a word length requirement. Saying what you need to say in as few words as possible is a nice skill to have.

{What are your classes?
I've been hired to Develop Believable Characters [late teens to thirties], Develop Younger, Out of the Norm Characters, and Critique Work. Please note that I will be offering critique/constructive criticism in all of my classes.

{Developing Believable Characters [late teens to thirties]
There's nothing wrong with wanting to play a character that has unusual qualities. It doesn't make you or your character a "special snowflake". What it comes down to is if you're being realistic about it. In this course I will help you with all aspects of your character: appearance, personality, history, medical history (including disorders and diseases), and dialogue.

{Developing Younger, Out of the Norm Characters
One of my biggest pet peeves is when people write younger characters that either sound too mature for their age or too young for their age. This course is designed to find that balance so that you become comfortable playing a character with a difficult age. In addition, I will also help you with all aspects as stated above.

{Critiquing Work
I am always happy to critique work, role playing or otherwise. Please note that my critiques stretch beyond simply editing for proper spelling and grammar (although I will also provide that service, of course). I critique your piece as a whole, including content, themes, vocabulary/word choice, and subtext. I do not sugarcoat my criticisms. I will not, however, completely just rip into your piece and tear you apart, unless, of course, you request this. I always offer up positives along with the negatives, because I know how hard it is to accept a critique when you feel like all of your hard work is just getting beaten into the ground. Please remember that whatever I say in my critique, I am saying to help you grow into a better writer.
[As a side note, I'm a psychology student, so if you have any questions about role playing that are psychologically inclined - mental disorders, child development, drugs and the brain, human social behaviour, etc - feel free to direct them to me.]

I look forward to teaching you, lovelies.

THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES
...a place of hidden secrets.

meet Phenomenon...
greetings, citizens of earth! i come with good tidings! [lol, i'm joking. chill.]
` Hello, everyone. I'm Phenomenon. c: But it's quite a lot to type so please call me "phen", "nom", or any other creative nickname as long as it's friendly and not rude. c; I do love nicknames (I will find one for you too! c:<), so, I'm open to new ones.
                  ` I am a very friendly person and I do love mail. I try to respond to every single one, but please do not be in despair if I do not reply right away. I am a busy person and real life things do get in the way sometimes, so, my apologies. But if you have any questions, don't be afraid to shoot me a PM. c;
` Reading, writing, and roleplaying are some of my favorite hobbies. I am a "book consumer", "nerd", "bookworm", and etc. Sorry if I say some scientifical terms or large and uncommon words. I try to ease down my wide vocabulary, so if you see me throwing facts and otherwise words that are very unknown to you, let me know because I may not catch myself. xD lol. I love to write and I am currently in the process of writing a novel. I do have some short stories here on CS, but they are on hold at the moment. I am a high semi-literate to literate roleplayer who loves action/adventure/mystery/sci-fi/fandom roleplay genres. Human or animal, it doesn't matter to me. c; I love detail, so...the majority of my posts are long. xD
` So, you might be wondering why I'm here. All of us semi-lit to lit roleplayers started out probably way below semi-lit. xD I actually picked up pretty quickly (my posts were always long and pretty detailed, I must say). But I wanted to take everything to the next level. So you know what I did? I taught myself coding (I'm a geek too...), how to be a literate roleplayer, and all that jazz. Yep, true story. c; Now, I'm a high semi-lit to lit roleplayer who loves to code things and, well, roleplay. xD I suppose I got noticed for my codings, roleplays, and such that people have sent me messages asking questions about how I do things. I have answered every one of those questions and then some. But then, I wondered if there was a way that I could help all the "ameteurs", the ones just being introduced to roleplaying and coding, and give them at least the basics so they have a good start. Because, when you first enter the world of roleplaying and coding, everything might seem like a blur and just gibberish. If I were a newbie to roleplaying and I had no clue what I was doing, I would want someone to help me through these things. Someone to just teach me the basics. I don't want people to get lost and give up. Instead, I want to encourage the newer ones and help them along so that they can be even better than me. c: So, yeah. xD I felt like I was giving a speech, but I suppose it will do for now.
` Availablity. So, I do have a life, but I can get on my laptop pretty often. Please keep in mind that even though I will be on often, I will not be on every single minute of the day. So, no serious pestering, please. xD I try my best to get on at least once or twice a day. I respond to all PMs as soon as I can and likewise with posts.
` Times? I am in Pacific Standard Time and usually on (unless Thursday or Friday) between...say, 1pm to around 4pm? I will be on around 9pm to at least 11pm. So, I believe that's a good amount of dedicated time to CS. c; I will post the class times soon. Hang on, peeps.
` Overall. Thanks for reading and I hope to have you in one of my classes someday!
...now, let ol' Nom show you how it's done.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
