hello!! i need some tips! so i have a dracaena fragrans (corn plant) and we've accidentally been overwatering. there have been lots of flies around him for a while now, and we put a bowl of wine next to him so the flies could get caught in it. we've caught about 28 flies in that wine so far, but i still see a few flies hovering around. is there any other way to help get rid of the flies and/or help with the overwatering without attracting more flies?
thank you :')
(if it helps i can post photos)

✿@dibs
such beautiful plants and the lil succulent pups look super adorable! grats!!
@suntowne
fortunately i've never had to deal with flies before, but unfortunately that
means i'll be useless at helping you with that.
as for overwatering: (if it's in a pot - though i'm not sure that it is) i would
recommend repotting into a larger container, this will (hopefully) help with
overwatering because theres more space around the roots for the water to
drain away into which means that the risk of root rot is decreased. when
repotting you are also able to look at all of the roots and cut off any of the
diseased root (which may be attracting the flies though i cannot say for sure
as i dont know much about pests) another way that repotting helps is that
it enables you to remove a lot of the old soil from the plant and replace it
into some dry substrate that will allow it a rest period before you resume
watering.
From my reading it seems like dracaena enjoys a period of dryness between
waterings, I usually test when my plants need water by sticking my finger into
the soil and checking if the soil is moist or not, but you can also buy moisture
meters which can also help!
I hope someone else can help with the flies at least (though afaik neem oil
is a good natural pest deterrent!)

I know I just posted an update, but I just wanted to share this...
Look what I found! :o

(sorry for the massive photo oop)
This leaf probably fell off my Perle von Nuremberg a month or two ago when I was moving my plants around, but I didn't notice until now, as he was hidden by some of the other leaves. I was trimming my plants this morning (taking a few overcrowded leaves for propagation) when I came across this guy! Over the last while he grew roots and somehow sprouted all by himself.
I've moved him to sit with my other propagating plants, but his parent leaf is already feeling a bit floppy/squishy, so I have a feeling he won't be needing it for too much longer. He's already probably 2-ish cm tall!
you did well today, you worked hard

I post way too often oops
So... I accidentally. Beheaded. My favorite succ child. ^^;;;;
I was doing a routine check/pruning of bottom leaves and he just kind of.
snapped
cleanly in two.
I kind of urgently need help now, what do I do?? I know that the stem can regrow new plants (slowly), and that I can get the head to grow roots, but I'm at a bit of a loss in terms of how to handle it. How often do I water the stem? Same as usual, or more/less?
What about the head, what's the best way to yield results there? I currently have him in a jar or water with the bottom of his stem a few centimeters above the water's surface (which was a tactic I read online). Not sure if that's the best way to go about it though.
The head also has quite a long stem; should I cut that down? It's maybe 6-7cm right now, which I think might be too much, but I don't want to cut without knowing what I'm doing.
hhhHHHH he was my most beautiful plant by far, and also my very first, so now I'm a little panicky haha
EDIT: also, when should I start putting rooted propagated leaves in the soil? My perle von nuremberg sprout (the one pictured in my previous post) is starting to grow longer roots, and I don't want them to dry up. His mother leaf is still attached right now, but the sprout is getting big (2-4cm tall?)
you did well today, you worked hard

✿ah man i've been MIA lately, sorry!
@dibidibidis
i would water the stem about the same or a bit less than usually
but im not sure if it will regorw! (i hope it does!) i would probably
do what you're doing with the top half too, they at least have the
benefit of being able to photosynthesise haha
i dont know if cutting the stem would make much difference, if
you've already cut them then i dont think it'll do too much harm,
but it may slow down the progress of growing new roots
i'm sorry for taking so long to respond, i hope it recovers well
and as for the perle offsets, i would put any rooted leaves into
soil but dont remove the parent leaf until it has wrinkled up bc
they're still getting nutrients from the parent leaf! :3c
@birb
welcome! <3 i love jades, i have like.... 6 of them from 2 plants
lmao...
Graptopetalum and living stones are so cute! if you wanna share
photos of them feel free! :3c i love seeing other people's plants!

I took some pictures of my Haworthia today and compared them to
a picture I took a few weeks ago, and the pictures demonstrate why
listening to what your plant leaves are saying is so important <3
this is the album, bc the pictures are huge haha: here

✿@birb
such cute babes! I love the lithops especially!
@dragins135
daaaang! 80 plants!!? I thought I had a lot 😂
oh hm, it's odd that it would change shape,
any way you can share some photos (if you
have photos before to that would be really
useful but no worries if you don't haha)
it's usually quite hard to under water, but if
it feels soft, and you can easily squeeze it,
it may underwatering!
---
sidenote: for anyone propogating succulents
at the moment, I saw this set-up which is cute
and looks real useful! ♥️
