hello everyone! so recently i've been researching the furry fandom (although i've known about it for years) and i was wondering where i should get started with everything? i'm currently designing my fursona, but one thing i'm really worried about is if any of me friends find out. we always joked about how furries are "weird" or "gross", but i've always felt bad and honestly thought furries were really cool. im in no rush to tell them (and probably never will), but idk :// i wish i had time to build a fursuit too and go to conventions, but i'm still only in secondary/highschool, so theres not really any way that my parents would ever let me go alone (and i wouldnt want them to come with me). thanks for taking time to read a newbies' worries lmao. also pm me if you ever wanna chat! i really want to start getting to know people in the furry fandom :)

Since I want to buy/make a fursuit this coming year, I kind of want to tell my parents about it all. Good news is, they're "blank slates" so to speak. They've never heard of the fandom, so they know nothing of the bad side. Problem is, I'm worried they'd think the good side is bad too. They're really normal, and they'd think it was a waste of money. And time, and that it would be immature...? But I I've always enjoyed making costumes and such... I'm not sure what to do? I don't want another thing that they'll think is stupid and make me feel bad about, but I'll want to share something I care about with them....
I'm going to college though so it really is up to me if I bring it up or not. I'd also be funding it myself.
So... Ideas?

I think you should just tell them, before they find out. Besides, if they seem a little off, just say it is your decision, it makes you happy and you are doing it, not them. As long as your happy, they might be good wit it. This is from my experiences, so I might be wrong, but uh good luck! (I know I wasnt accepted, I just wanted to help)

What I did was never tell anyone that I was a furry. I still drew anthros and such but I just never say it directly. I started building a fursuit and my parents called it a fur head, fur paws, and fur tail. LOL they are so clueless. My friends have seen my fursuit building, but I doubt all of my friends actually know the furry term. My parents just think I'm building a nice little costume that other people like to make. So I would just not really tell anyone, just slowly let your friends know your in the fandom. Like draw some anthros and make fursonas and show them. Of course you can talk about being a furry all over social media though, because no one can judge you through the internet.

Ehh, you can be judged to death on the internet, even the person may not know about you at all. I have been, but pfft i ignored them! Anyway, coming to let them know is a good technique i would say, but i like to come out sooner so it wouldn't be on my mind constantly. You never know, they might be one too!

There are so many interesting furries on here, its awesome! But, i need some help.

I have these 'judgmental' friends and they hate furries half to death and Im a furry, and they found out. they are typical rude guys who go off and pull fun without a second thought, and wouldn't have as second thought.I thought they were nice, but they turned out to be something i acnnot say without breaking CS rules. If i decide to unfriend them, they might go off and, well, and i bet most of you know. It will not be good. they don't csare for me ,much, and they ignore me, i ignore them, so i am slowly drifting apart from them. And advice for the situation? Im totally lost and im worried what they might say about furries..

I am actually in a similar position. The truth is you don't need to tell anyone you're a furry. It's a fandom and a hobby. Let me set some examples... Let's say you play basketball, you don't go around confessing to people you play basketball. Saying that, if someone sees you playing basketball they aren' t going to think much of it. Other than you like basketball. Just like with furries. I draw heaps of animals in my school books (I really shouldn't but I do anyway) and people just say they like my drawings. So they think I like art and animals and I do (mind you I mostly draw them in feral form, not anthro). They aren't going to look at my drawings and judge me of the end of time for it.
I should also say that being in high school, I understand that you don't want to tell your friends. The fandom is still relatively unknown or misjudged. So if whatever reason you are not comfortable talking to them or drawing or whatever furry related thing with them. Then don't. Just gain friends in the furry fandom, I have been told that it isn't very hard as the furry fandom is very accepting for all ages, genders and sexuality. I'm really antisocial so I'm lacking in furry friends. And for the going to conventions and suiting... I can't really answer very well. I'm in the same situation. I don't want to tell my mum as she isn't the type of person to look at this and not think weird. But we also don't have all the money in the world so a fursuit is also off the table. My plan is to wait until I'm old enough to have my full drivers license and independence. So I can do my own thing without needing to inform my entire family. But if you are worried about going to cons alone, there are heaps of people that go with there furry friends. So if your parents will let you go with friends then that could work.
Hopefully my advice made sense and was helpful. I know I'm not the best at explaining things. But hopefully you get the main idea. Welcome to the furry fandom.
