@deimos

Thank you! I just don't know how to continue with Smokebreath and Fogspark now though. XD

Question: What is the oldest age you think a cat should have kits?

in the research i did for figuring out ages i want to use for my clan cats, i have the cut off as 6 years (72 moons). cats can have kits for their entire life, but the older they are the more trouble they will have and the higher risk they run of have complications and passing on.

Quick question. My clan kind of...ignores most rules. So, I was wondering if it would be possible for cats in my clan to have kits without officially becoming mates? Or would that be frowned upon?

    @Arya
    An interesting Q! Hope this is a vaguely interesting A and not just a tirade!
    I'm just gonna come at it from the perspective of anthropology if that's alright?
    One of my lecturers does research on kinship systems in indigenous Amazonian groups (I feel like stating the specific group would make finding her very easy, and thus finding me very easy, so I won't, but you can probably work it out if you really want to. But please don't say which group with any clear connection to this post. I would cite if not for that ^ and the CS rules making sense with not revealing current locations) and was explaining one system in the lecture earlier today.
    Basically, children are seen as ridiculously valuable, they represent joy; if a family doesn't have kids, they don't have joy in their house, and so everything sucks for them.
    Adults often feel guilty about growing up and depriving their parents of joy they provided as children... so the first born child is voluntarily adopted out (most times), to the mother's mother. The second born is (normally) adopted out to the father's mother. The third child is kept (and so on) - unless someone else (normally maternal relatives) doesn't have a child or if someone requests to raise their child (refusing would make them "stingy"; that means you're not cooperative with the group, and you're a rubbish person).
    Just to make it clear: it is not neglect to do this! The child is ensured to be looked after well and by trusted individuals, and as they normally go to family, the birth parents will have constant contact. They even make sure to check you have the best interests of the child in mind if you're just spending time around them. Voluntary adoption is common throughout Northern South America, so unless we're willing to tell various whole countries that their entire culture is "wrong"... let's not do that. Anywho.
    A child can be growing up in a grandparent's house believing that their mother is a sister. When that child grows up, they give their first born to their parent (their biological grandparent), and the "parent" will also be the "great-grandparent". This continues until the oldest generation dies, at which point the child only has to replace their spouse (assuming their spouse isn't in the same situation). People can keep having children (even if they're not biological children) until they die.
    As this is a way around menopause (baaaasically), and cats do not have menopause, cats would not need to instigate this potential mess ^ to keep having kits. If women (who are biologically restricted in when they can have children) can keep having kits until they die, there's no real reason why a cat would be restricted. Men also don't need to do this; the oldest (recorded) biological father was 96 when his second daughter was born.
    That said, I feel like it might be seen as "abnormal" by most clans for an elder to be having kits (justifiably, due to bone issues and so on), so I'd personally say to carefully consider if they can have further litters after they have become an elder, except when the clan is in dire need of kits due to some major disaster or whatever. But... it could be interesting for at least some clans to have elders kitting as a typical (if risky) thing?

    On a similar note!
    Gustclan is matrilineal + matrilocal, so descent is passed down by the mother, so you live near your mother. Ideally, only the mother counts for clan membership.
    What's your clan's lineage form? (mostly talking about forbidden relationships) Are any patrilocal, so the dad's clan claims all the kits?

    @Phina
    I kind of confirmed in my last few posts that Langoustinepaw and Vendacepaw are born through a polyamorous relationship in my family list (you can check if you want! As kittens can be born in the same litter by different fathers I figured that would make their colours make more sense), and that seems to be fine, so I'm pretty sure mutually consenting to be parents but not mates is also fine. Mutually consenting parents is a lot more "normal" than having two dads in one litter, pretty sure.

      @chamrosh - that bit about the amazonian groups was real interesting! honestly learning about different cultures and such is just a blast. and surprisingly enough, most of the 2nd/3rd gens in my clan were born to 1st/2nd gen pineclanners. the first forbidden litter resulted in the father joining my clan in the end.

      also i decided to compile the most popular prefixes (so far) here - hopefully this is interesting enough, i'm gonna see if i can make this a (bi)-weekly thing?
popular/most used prefixes in CAC wrote:
