Sometimes when Sorrelstar blinked she saw stars, and cats reaching out to her. Skunkbrush and Speckledbeetle and all of her lost clanmates mouthing words of worry. But she could not touch them.
Sometimes Sorrelstar could hear them, if she concentrated very hard and kept her ears wide-set and still. But it was as if the stars themselves were whispering, a million million forests away.
Her dreams were filled with stars, and trees frozen mid-bow to the wind. Sometimes Skunkbrush would be there, talking to her in a just-below audible tone. Sometimes it would be Speckledbeetle, or Dunpond, or even Sleetfoot- though he usually accompanied his kits. And they would sit and talk or play or just look at her and she could never reply.
It was torture, being split between two worlds. With her heart up in Starclan but her body and mind trapped wandering the earth. There were no words to describe the echoing feeling of pure loneliness that came from just glimpse- like she was more dead than the rest of them.
