@mint; extremely well said. That's pretty much why I was so hesitant to join this club. It seemed far too pretentious for my liking, and I feared that I wouldn't really be accepted in this community. I mean, nobody's perfect, and occasionally even the most adept and credentialed of writers tend to slack off or find themselves in a creativity slump. I enjoy writing neat little paragraphs and quick responses. They aren't always novels, and because of that I thought that I would face rejection by my peers. And as for the bit about coding, right you are again. When I first got to cs on my very first account four years ago, I'll admit that I was illiterate, an inept coder, and quite frankly, a bloody awful writer. However, over time, my writing skills have grown quite dramatically. Unfortunately, I still felt inferior to those on this website whom were gifted coders. Then, upon actually reading the text imbedded in the flashy decoration, I found that in some cases there were countless typographical errors (which I usually just disregard), terrible grammar mechanics, common and simple adjectives/verbs, and so many run-on sentences that an English teacher would be reduced to tears if he or she were to read it. I know this sounds incredibly harsh, and I apologise for that, because I'm certainly not trying to set anyone off here. I merely feel like that just supports the statement that in certain situations, code may distract from an author's work- whether the writing be astoundingly exceptional or below satisfactory.

wow, i have not posted here for a long time
then again, i haven't post much anywhere, recently.

@orca, i agree with you completely. especially on
"I enjoy writing neat little paragraphs and quick responses."
i despise trying to post a long reply when i don't have the muse. roleplaying is meant to be fun, recreation.
      and
"Then, upon actually reading the text imbedded in the flashy decoration, I found that in some cases there were countless typographical errors (which I usually just disregard), terrible grammar mechanics, common and simple adjectives/verbs, and so many run-on sentences that an English teacher would be reduced to tears if he or she were to read it."
in some absolutely gorgeous forms, i've found a lack of periods, and wandering run-ons. of course, most people on this thread have the most wonderful writing. it's not common to find anything that's badly written here. when i do find a form like that though, my opinion of the said form is pretty low. regardless of the coding.

... i'm pretty sure ten pages ago this was a thread that was complimenting and encouraging coders. i'm pretty sure this thread was made for the purpose of lifting up people who dedicated their time into coding and writing. isn't that what the awards are for...? the front page literally reads:
"this thread is for the purposes of roleplayers and coders stalking and being stalked.
do you have a chickensmoothie idol? do you have a coding idol? share with us who
you think is a great roleplayer and/or coder! we are here to recognize the work of
roleplayers, and coders no matter the skill!
    "

well as a coder i'm going to put my two cents in because everyone else has so
from what i can tell, all this tainting of the word "literate" and "focus on super pretty forms" is because of these flashy forms and non-existance expectations, right? ask yourself, when has anyone denied you entry to roleplay? did they give you a reason? i have never, ever told someone they couldn't join my roleplay because they didn't have pretty coding. i know for a fact that my friends, or so-called "coding literates" haven't either. i'm all for writing- it's extremely important and the entire purpose of roleplaying. i agree with that. but to make that point, do you need to put other people's forms in a bad light?

every single cs user could drop coding right now if we wanted. instead of saying how horrible your coding is, you can embrace what your skills are and quit comparing to everyone else. we were just talking about style. finding your own style means you do things your way, not following in the steps of others. i could easily quit - it takes most of my time that i could be spending doing real life things. but joining this site and learning the mechanics and what makes an appeasing form literally inspired what i want to do with my life. just like writing shows people they want to become authors, i want to design magazine pages when i get older just because i started with something like using simplistic BBCode.

these "typos" happen in every single form, no matter the coding. just because a form is pretty, are you really going through each and every word to prove "oh, they spent so much time on this and look, they missed a vowel there or used the wrong punctuation there". everyone makes mistakes, so why are we only talking about the mistakes avid coders make? (i mean, this post probably has typos. i'm not even using capitalization. am i illiterate for that now?)

this entire "exclusive group" thing is something that i find personally offensive, actually, because i know i'm often grouped with them. we're literally just a big group of friends that join each others roleplays because we want to chat and write with each other. i talk to multiple members through kik, snapchat, and so on. i hope you know that when you say that on a public forum, all those people you're referring to can see it and it really hurts because we never, ever want to make anyone feel excluded. ever. we're a bunch of teenage nerds, not professionals or anything. it kinda hurts my feelings seeing users i haven't even spoken to say such things about my passion and friends. and if you feel that way, pm me right now and explain why so i can help you feel better! chickensmoothie is such a wonderful community full of talented writers, designers and extraordinary people who are letting other people's work influence them too much.

literacy has been warped into something it shouldn't be. everyone here knows that. each and every one of us has judged someone unfairly- don't even try and deny it because your lying to yourself. writing is the entire point of creating a roleplay. i still read and reread anything i post to check for grammatical errors- but i'm only in high school, so how can i make a perfect post if i haven't been educationally exposed to some components of grammar and writing? sure, i spend hours upon hours coding because it's what i love. but not a minute of that time is taken from the time i spend perfecting posts as much as possible.

i'm sorry. but i'm not going to sit here and be told i don't care or focus on writing because i spend time coding instead.
thanks for reading, if you bothered to read it all. i just tried to explain and cover points that have been brought up. some, or even most of you might disagree with me, but i think trying to understand where i'm coming from would help out everyone. many of you code and you all make lovely forms so i'm sure you kind of see why i might be a little rattled from this?

i know no one meant any harm! i'm just putting another point of view up!

big page of text i am so sorry but i need to say it and there is no better time than now
and just so you know posting this is making me so nervous bc it's a delicate issue on here

      @aurie @everyone

now i'm not disagreeing with you one bit but i just feel like you are only seeing it from your side of the table. i believe what you said was true. that the coding has nothing to do with the persons writing abilities. ( i believe that's what you were trying to say. cx ) it's totally different from the perspective of the lesser known role players. we see you as the coding gods and if ours doesn't look as good as yours we feel as though we don't fit in. i realize it shouldn't be like that but it is.

i used to roleplay on here a few years back and had this one friend. she was literally scared to roleplay with you guys because her coding wasn't good enough or her paragraphs weren't long enough and stuff like that. but she idolized you guys and then she said something that one of you guys were mean to her and it was like instantly 'wow they're a tough bunch. i'd rather let them say to their own group.' ( i honestly don't remember her username. heh. xc )

but now that i've come back a few years later it seems to me that all the things other users said about you weren't true. i feel as if i fit in with the more ' literate group ' of roleplayers because of my mediocre coding. sometimes i browse the un-advanced section and find people who are literally writing books but their coding isn't as good as ours. i mean like someone should do something about that, maybe even i will. like invite them to join a roleplay of mine or something.

in the group that people label you in, you guys always join each others roleplays and that is totally fantastic. i have no problem with with that but most of the time they fill up so quick because you guys get to them first. then, it's like poop. i really wanted to join that but there is no more spots open.

in the end, i feel as if most of the awesome roleplays you guys create die because of the lack of posting and turning in forms. that's really sad to me.

i don't want any of you to hate me for saying this yo.

just wanted to say something because i felt as if i had too. c:

@loosely i totally get that and don't disagree with you at all! c:
trust me, i've seen both sides before. i use to idolize coders too, so i devoted my time to it.

i won't even deny roleplays die because of forms that's true too.
i'm a culprit of that because life gets in the way sometimes.

i just wrote that because as a person, i feel like coding is my only talent right now.
i'm not good at sports, i'm only average in school and have all kinds of anxiety.
coding is all i have right now and i just wish people would understand its my hobby, not something i do to make others feel bad or prove my worth as a literate.
it just really bummed me out seeing my writing being put down because of coding. just like some people are self-conscious about their coding, i'm really uncertain with my writing nowadays as well.
