what's your favorite character you've created thus far, and why?

My favourite character I've created is definitely Scarlett.
She's the best friend of one of the main characters in my book I'm working on. She's a half vampire, and bastard child of a viscount.
I especially like her because she's the definition of the nature Vs nurture debate.
Her nature is that of a vampire, as she's a royal vampire. Vampires, especially royal vampires are very cruel in nature and since they don't have a soul they have no remorse, feel no love and no shame. This generally causes them to be pretty bad people. She never met her father and was raised by her human mother, in a human neighbourhood, surrounded by humans, with human ideals and morals. She knows what's right and wrong, and she'll generally act the way she's raised, but she doesn't feel anything.
She knows stealing is bad, she doesn't steal, but she wouldn't think about it twice if she did.
Sometimes she does bad things if she can justify it to herself. It's also very interesting to write the difference in how she acts with her humans friends Vs her vampire ones. While she can't feel love she cares very deeply about her mum, but she's very hypocritical in how she acts towards her mother and friends or to other humans.

This sounds awesome, vampires + rewritten history?! Plus original lore & spins like that are so fun, they can bring so much life to an old trope. I am excited to hear more about it if there's stuff you are able/wanting to share here!

I have always really liked vampires and I really like my spin on them. Basically they're living creatures, born vampires!

i LOVE scarlett thus far. ive always been fascinated about how writers choose to play characters who lack some sort of emotion/feeling. im very interested to see how this would affect her storyline :>

and i use the novelist app which sounds pretty similar to obsidian ! honestly LOL i use notability on my ipad more commonly, and i only really have my first novel sketched out on novelist :> notability is just easier for me and i can draw/write tables and charts and blueprints for houses/towns/rooms so i remember what all the settings look like LOL

and your little spin on vampire lore sounds so fascinating. i love seeing so much thought put into it >:) asdfgjkl

It switches around a lot, but I'd have to say one of my Warrior Cats OCs. Probably Cobwedew right now, although I love all of them. I just love writing morally gray characters, and Cobwebdew fits the mold.

Cobwebdew starts out as playful, energetic, mischievous cat, who loved his family. But after he wandered into AutumnClan territory and got attacked by Wolfstorm, ending up with a torn ear and a blinded eye, he grew to be more of a rule-follower, though still loving and cheerful. He also started to get a more aggressive nature, wanting to prove himself because some of his more distasteful Clanmates doubted that he could be a good warrior, due to his lack of depth perception and a smaller field of view. He trained hard and became a warrior who was very talented at fighting.
Soon after, though, his parents both die from greencough, a deadly sickness, within days of each other. While his sister Boldspider grieved and recovered normally, Cobwebdew and his brother Fiddlespots had different reactions to that tragedy; Fiddlespots lingered over his parents' deaths for a long time, and grew more bitter and sad after that; while Cobwebdew simply shut down, cutting off all emotion he felt so he could stay strong and protect his Clan, to prove he wasn't weak. Because of this, to strangers he always seemed intimidating, what with his scars and how he always seemed bored or sardonic. In other words, lazy because he doesn't have to be alert, meaning that he is good at fighting.
A while after this, Boldspider is kidnapped by twolegs with Cobwebdew watching. He didn't try to save her because he told himself that he couldn't, it would just endanger him and his Clan. Fiddlespots accuses Cobwebdew of not caring about their sister and Cobwebdew wonders if that is the case, and starts to wonder if something is wrong with him. He struggles through the next few weeks, with no one to talk to and nothing to do except do his duties as a warrior. After a spat with his brother, Cobwebdew runs off and sits beside large pool of swampy water that is in SummerClan's territory. And who happens to come by but Wolfstorm, the cat who scarred him, both mentally and physically, when they were both apprentices. Wolfstorm falls into the lake and nearly drowns, because AutumnClan cats can't swim, but SummerClan cats can. Cobwebdew, after a moment's hesitation, saves her and they become close after that, with Wolfstorm apologizing for her actions when they were young.
The two become friends of Arcticflight and Hyacinthdrop, and all the while Cobwebdew wonders what's wrong with him, why doesn't he feel emotions like he used to, is he going insane? After the death of Hyacinthdrop, he breaks down and remembers what it's like to truly feel. All the emotions he'd bottled up came out. A while afterward, he and Wolfstorm become mates and have one kit together, and adopt a whole bunch more.
His brother later comes to reconcile and help Cobwebdew's family with a rogue problem they'd been having. Cobwebdew says that they can go hunting together after the big battle. But during the battle, Cobwebdew is knocked out against a tree and when he wakes up, he no longer remembers who he is and who his friends are. i'm quite the opposite, LOL, i've been writing for a dozen years now, but never allowed myself to flesh out a storyline or a real plot to my characters and my worlds. i've got a little universe i started earlier this year that i'm FINALLY putting some thought into, and it feels great >:)

i LOVE the genres you mentioned. i'd enjoy hearing more about your experience in horror, and whether you like to dive into psychological horror? i've never READ psychological horror but that's one of my favorite movie/anime/game genres. gets me more than actual horror does, lol.

Picking a favorite is so hard I feel like I'm gonna hurt the rests feelings 😭 But at this CURRENT MOMENT... Probably Midi Surf! She's one of the deuteragonists in my fighting tournament story, acting as the MC's coach/fellow tournament contestant. In this universe people have the chance to be born with special powers, and hers is the ability to manipulate her bones.

Midi is tenacious, competitive, mischievous, slightly unhinged, terrible at socializing, and has a somewhat concerning obsession with the concept of "winning". She is ruthless in the ring, oftentimes going a bit overkill with her opponents. But when your father is a previous world champion fighter, competing at anything other than 110% will not tolerated. Midi has a lot of repressed trauma that came with being raised in such a way, and struggles to accept that she can't always be number one.

I ended up projecting a lot onto Midi and relate to her heavily, which is probably why she's one of my favs lol.. Plus all my favorite characters in general are the scary freaky weirdos. Here's a couple pics >:) one / two / three
