You know what, I'm done posting here.
EVERY time I post something, I get put down for it as if I'm some cruel person because I don't follow someone elses specific rules.
Where should pet rats continue to come from - sick feeders, that live for a mere two years at most and leave a bad taste in peoples mouth and make rats look like bad pets? Or good quality rats that are bred properly for longer, healthier lives. That aren't terrified of humans and risk biting, like I know all too well with the poor, terrified feeders at all of our pet stores. ;/
I am getting 8th generation dumbos from a very good freind, whom is providing me with GOOD quality rats from her own personal Rattery. She is incredible, and has helped me out a lot. She is a true breeder. She is not a hoarder - having only 20 rats of her own compared to the 40-70+ everyone else I know that claims to be a breeder has. She is helping me improve on Everything.
I have had rats in my life for a good ten years. While I am STILL learning, I am no idiot with my rats and I am very careful.
End of story. I'm done updating people on my rats here.
It is called the rat lovers club. Not the PET only rat lovers club, thank you very much.

Yes, I'm pro rescue. There is nothing wrong with that. People on this thread are mostly children / teenagers, everyone seems to be breeding, and everyone pats eachother on the back for that and supports it? What about the fact there's so many ratties in rescues, so many pregnant rats that actually need a home rather than breeding more. What actually makes a good breeder, from what I have seen, nobody knows anything about eachothers "breeding plans". All that has been said is that someone has this litter, plans breed these litters etc. How do you get from that, that they are a good breeder?
Honestly every time I post on this thread now, I know people will either ignore my posts or disagree with them. The sad thing is though, all I have said is in the best interest of the rats. I don't think I'm better than anyone else, but with all the rescues I've had, just because of their backgrounds I've experienced a lot with them.... general care, litters, health problems. So I'm sorry if I post on this thread to try and help people, that's clearly wrong or offensive in some way. Not sure how that makes me an idiot though, for being pro rescue and questioning someone that has several litters planned out for this year? Having 8 generations doesn't mean a thing if you haven't studied genetics properly, know all about litters, their proper care. What about nursing cages, from your pics it looks like you just use tanks... not ideal for babies at all. And you mentioned fleece - threads could get wrapped around the babies which is dangerous for them.
At the end of the day I started using this thread months ago because I love my ratties. I've had over 100 rescue rats from different backgrounds, tomorrow I'm bringing home a probably-pregnant girl because someone decided to let her breed with the boys despite not knowing a thing about how to care for them properly..... so yeah, it does make me angry to then come on and read this thread and see people breeding dozens and dozens of babies - for no apparent reason.
