I know my mom thinks that im wanting a street rat, all filthy with diseases. She doesnt understand that pet rats are basically a completly different species. Luckily even though she doesnt like them, she's not going to say I cant have one.

Yeah. I'm lucky. Both my parents love rats and most are owned by them. Haha!

I feel so bad, this person is giving their rat away because he's 'untame' and since their giving him away for free on CL im so scared that he will end up as snake food!

Why cant this person just work with him or find him a home with someone that knows rats and how to help him? Instead of giving him away where he will probably end up as snake food?

That's like.. sending a new puppy to the pound because it's not pottytrained.
Seriously?
It's a PET.
It's not gonna automatically worship you, you need to BOND with it.

Exactly! And the person refuses to get him fixed herself, 'because I dont have the money' or whatever.
If I could, I would take him and get him fixed myself and work with him, cause even though ive never had a rat before, I have worked with other animals with similar problems.
(I mean I worked with my cat who hated all humans and was scared to death of them, within a week of me working with her, I was able to let her out of the room I kept her in, and she was a great little cat.)

Cool, I went to the humane society today to see about getting a puppy maybe and I passed by the rats just to look and I saw a female rat whose reason she was in the pound was because her previous owners didn't like the fact that she could open the cage she was in. it was one of those cages where all she had to do was lean against the BROKEN door and it would open. The cage that she used to be in was right next to her present cage to prove that she could open that kind of door and I showed them that it was broken. I wish I could take her home but with 19+ pets already, I am not in a position to take on another for a little while

Hey guys, do you have any ideas on how to sell my mom more onto the idea of a pair of rats?

I don't know if I'm going to be able to get the two I was planning on getting because we're moving and my mom is refusing to have another thing to move, so I might have to find a breeder around my new house.

I don't know. Sorry. I never had to beg my mum for a rat. She loves getting new ones. Hope you find away. Tickles just got to meet the babies. Mummy Rory was happy to bring them out for her, not protective at all.

She wants to get back to her friends so Rory was excited to see Tickles.

Hey, I just wanted to share that the first two books from the Nightshade Chronicles(by Hilary Wagner) arrived! I was curious if anyone else has read them?
The First book, Nightshade City, is about a colony of intelligent rats that live in the catacombs under a city. A coup had caused the colony to be taken over by a dictatorial leader, High Minister Killdeer. Three young rats flee the catacombs to join the "rebels" and aid in the overthrow.
The Second, takes place 3yrs after the liberation of the catacombs. One of Killdeer's henchmen have been dwelling in the southern swamps where he rules a horde of savage rats eager to overrun Nightshade City.

I'm only a chapter into the first book, and it seems to be pretty well written.
Just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone who hadn't read the book was interested. At the moment I am unsure how much violense is in the book. So those who can stand a little blood may want to steer clear.

Hoping this will keep me at bay while I wait for my december rats <3
*I miss having rats soooo much!

I would definitely wait until after the move. In the mean time show her how responsible you can be. Get all your chorse done +extra, do a LOT of research on rats and fill her in. Make sure you get all your homework done in a timely manner. Hey, you could even write an essay about rats with all the research you did to show her how serious you are about it. =)
If it doesn't work, at least you learned a lot from the experience and can use that knowledge for a time when you can have rats.
!Please do not demand art from me, it will be ignored!
No matter how "nicely" you put it. I'm not an art-slave.
