I feel like I maybe answered this before but I've got first editions of GoF, OotP, HBP and DH - my first three were all paperbacks, can't recall if my copy of the Philosopher's Stone is a "paperback first edition" though. It certainly bears the same appearance as one, but it's currently boxed up so I can't check the inside. =( All my books are the Bloomsbury children's covers - I remember thinking it was brilliant that they made adult covers so commuters could read them on the trains without getting sneered at!
I actually saw the Friday Forty go live today for Harry Potter and the Cursed Child tickets, but I'm broke and probably wouldn't have even made it through the queue. =(

Guys guys guys! I noticed something that doesn't quite line up!
Umm, I don't think there's any major spoilers.
Right, so you know how in Order of the Pheonix Harry could see the Thestrals because he had seen someone die in the last book? That doesn't work... When he was a baby, Voldermort killed his mother in front of him, wouldn't he be able to see the Thestrals after that?
Okay, so maybe he was sleeping, or maybe it only applied to deaths he could remember. But what about Professor Quirrel??? Harry killed him with his own hands, and he still couldn't see the Thestrals?

maybe tag as spoilers, just to be safe?
*spoilers*
this has been mentioned (not on this thread specifically, but in the fandom in general, and it's true) before. i think the most widely accepted reason as to why his parents' deaths didn't work was because he was too young to truly process what had happened. for quirrel's death, maybe because he kind of crumbled to dust, harry also didn't process it as a death?

Speaking of HP parties... There's a costume shop here where I live that's having an event. I'm going as Luna and my sister is going as Hermione. I'm super excited because there's going to be butterbeer (in "The Leaky Cauldron") and little theatrics (between Harry and he who must not be named) and an Olivander's type set-up. It's at the end of July, actually on Daniel Radcliffe's birthday, and I can't wait I'm so excited.
With that in mind, if anyone has any recommendations for Luna and/or Hermione cosplay or costume please let me know.
taking a hiatus from cs as school has started back again and i'm stressed out. if you have my skype, feel free to contact me there or shoot me a message on dA (though it's rare that i'll check there). i'll be back though my peeps. <3 c:

Man I haven't been on this site in so long, let alone this thread. Those parties sound super cool, unfortunately I live in a rather small city where people aren't mostly into books and themed parties simply don't happen. I wish they did, might look into organizing one once I'm done with work. GUys when you choose to do something like art professionally be prepared to spend a lot of time on it cries
As for the cosplays, @GirlWhoCriedWolf before I say anything, do you have any specific time period? Like would you like to only go for the uniforms or maybe something more set in the war? I think that'd be really cool, recreating their look from those scenes.

Well-
*Spoilers that came out years and years ago*
Why didn't he see the thestrals at the end of book 4? After Cedric had died and he'd had a week or so to comprehend his death? Granted, introducing a new creature at the end of the book would have felt unnatural in the arc of the story and would have been rather disruptive, but it's still very inconsistent.
With regards to Quirrel, in later years he's referred to by Harry's Internal Monologue as having died, so I find the idea that Harry didn't process it as death something of a stretch.
All that is gold does not glitter;
not all those who wander are lost;
the old that is strong does not wither;
deep roots are not reached by the frost.
