Hekomi wrote:Okay, I'm coming here, not because I've read the books, but because I have a few questions. xD Everyone is raving about them, and I am rather curious. I know the basic plot line, me thinks... but would you think these books are far too young for a nineteen year old? I love reading, and I've always read books that are far above my level. But everyone's talking about how good these books are (and clearly, since you guys are all in a fan club, you think they are too :]).
Can someone give me a spoiler-free synopsis? I know it's about a city that has these I guess death tournaments to keep everyone in line, but I think that's all I know.
Also, how many pages are the books? There are three, right?
My mom has read it, so no I don't think a nineteen year old is to old for reading the books and for the spoiler free synopsis
In a futuristic world a gilr named Katniss Everdeen voluteers to take her sisters place a yearly blood-bath. Along with her other disrtict 12 tribute Peeta Mellark. She is put into an arena with 24 other children to fight to the death. But Katniss doesn't know that she is the key to the future of panem.
Eh, sorry it's lame.

@hekomi - It takes place in the future, in a place called Panem, formerly North America. There are twelve districts - district 1 (richest), district 2, so on until district 12 (poorest)- and a place known as the Capitol that runs everything. Years ago there was a thirteenth district - district 13 - but it got destroyed by the Capitol when the districts teamed up to try and fight the Capitol.
Since the 'rebel war', the Capitol holds a yearly even called the Hunger Games to remind the people of Panem that 'we can do whatever we want, just look what we did to district 13, we can do it again'. Two kids (from ages 12-18) from each district - a boy and a girl - are randomly chosen to fight in that year's Games. There are basically no rules in the Games. The kids are forced to fight each other to the death - Last tribute standing is crowned victor and is rich for the rest of their lives.
Katniss Everdeen is a 16-year-old girl in the poorest part of District 12. Her father died a few years before so Katniss is left to care for her 12-year-old sister and depressed mother by illegally hunting in the woods for food. Her life changes when she volunteers for tribute in place of her sister, and Katniss is sent to the Games with her fellow district 12 tribute Peeta Mellark, a boy who saved her life.

agreed, re-reading books is great. I read HungerGames the first time and realized it was my favorite book, read it again and realized how completely obsessed I am! I haven't gotten the round-to-its to re-read Mockingjay yet though. My copy just retired from circulating among my friends that wanted to read it

hey i'm tele and i'm super cool

Exactly my books are so worn down, I am really sad, my mom has confiscated Catching Fire because she says that I can't read it the 25 time. Plus I just know she's trying to take away Hunger Games and Mockingjay, so I sleep with them. They iz cuddly.

Am I in? Sorry for bugging you, I just need someone to talk the Hunger Games to. My family hates them and my BFF has not finished them yet, so I am on my own:(

Lol. I've read CF a bunch of times too. Sometimes I just get bored and open to a random page and start reading
