This is something I took at my grandparents place during Christmas dinner..and I wanted to see if there was anything I could have done to make this photo better

Very nice photograph. :3
I think the only thing I could say, is that it may look slighty better if the flame was defined from the inner light of the candle, rather than blended in. I really don't know how this would be achieved, though. xDD

@August: looking at your oekaki drawing, one major thing stands out to me that would really improve it, and that would be a consistent light source. Right now I'm not really sure where the light is coming from. What really helps me is to draw a point or circle in the sketch stage where the light comes from and sometimes lines where it would go/bounce off of/etc. I hope that makes sense.

@Ambivalance: The watercolors make the first piece. I love the color you have. I really have more to say about the second one though, so I'll go with that. Though I'm not a human artist per say the girl in your drawing immediately struck me as being well done and natural looking. good job there. Her creature friend looks stiff, especially next to her. However, I think you could make that work, especially with the theme you said you had in the comments. What I think would make it obvious that he's (sorry if I get the gender wrong, I don't know the character) stiff like that on purpose is if you choose what areas to make stiff and what areas to smooth out. For example if his back and legs remain the same but you change his neck position in some way (stretched towards her, maybe), it will look like he's maybe uncertain but she's comforting him.
Also as a side not my art teacher taught me this awesome trick that will keep your lines from smudging - when you draw, keep a piece of blank printer paper under your hand. Works every time for me.

@mistywren: I LOVE them! Especially the hatchling stage. I really like how you did the shading, too. I do think it would make sense to have linear on the egg stages if the dragon stages have lineart, but that's a nitpicky thing.

Hey guys^^

@Stone;
I really can't say much, it's a wonderful photo, though I can't seem to distinguish the actual flame from the melted wax? Might just be my eyes, because I'm supposed to wear glasses xD

And I was wondering in anyone knew of a way to practice sketching? -shot-
I mean, HOW should I practice it? My kittens are very hyper-active, not to mention one is.. overweight and has some physical things wrong with him, so I'd probably have trouble sketching off them.
And when I practice sketch should I just sketch the body or also sketch where I assume the joints are? Thanks xD

I think that my picture that I need help on got hidden by my critique ^^'

If I could get any help on this it would be appreciated:

I like the overall look of it, except for the paw behind the cub. Also if you see any other areas that need help, I'd love it if you can point them out to me, as this is a gift. Redlines are welcomed.

Thank you all for the comments.

@ Kohaku - Those eggs I made a few years ago thus the reason they're different.

That's the main trick to life-drawing, nothing holds still for very long. try to catch your kitten sleeping if you can, but other poses will require a lot of false starts. (It's good practice) Your tubby kitty will still pose for good practice, at the very least in how fat and muscle obey both skin/tendons and gravity, or more detailed things (Like paws/etc)

As for the joints, you should start with those first. build up from the bones, and the motion of the body, adding meat then details. Guessing probably wont end well, so Id personally suggest a nice mammalian muscle study or two (Face for one, body for another). A human one will probably be easiest to find (and reference at a later date, since you always have a human with you)

all else fails, go haunt the local fast food place / busy street / coffee shop for a few hours, and draw what you see.
