If we're still talking about name sources... I mean, scrolling down in the recent posts thing I can still find references to naming, but I saw a lot of references to naming lists and I believe I have an available improvement, so this seems an acceptable segue to me...
I have a complete whopper list on my computer. I am prepared to essentially let this be a public resource (with some restrictions mostly for practicalities's sake). Please don't fuss about not being bothered to read through all of this if you're not interested, and I won't be offended if you later ask me where it is so you can read this because you might be interested, etc. If you know you're not interested, I don't want you wasting time, basically, and if you're only slightly interested, skipping past my list of things I can potentially help source you may be a good plan.

Features;
First: A list of every suffix I am allowed to give at the present moment. I want to add something about stealth, but still haven't come up with that yet. They're divided mostly into "honour names" and "disgrace names". Honour names are things like -heart, -claw, or -fur; the normal names a cat will receive upon being a warrior.
Disgrace names are things like -blood, -shade, -frost, or -bone; things that if a cat receives, it means they have committed an offence against the clan. It's basically marking them out as either dangerous and so to be minded or not suitable to live in a future clan once they have been exiled - I did also deliberately include some which are common suffixes in other clans (and I could see being negative), partially for drama of my cats being very suspicious of them, and partially so that future bad leaders have a (flimsy) justification for saying every other clan sucks. I am in no way saying those prefixes are actually all disgraces to have, just that that's how Gustclan sees them. None of these have been given yet.

Second: A description of how to make name-change names; that is when a cat is renamed as a badge of honour for continuing to fight for Gustclan even when they faced mortal danger, and they have clear scars to prove that they were in danger. I'm not sure how much of it is sourced from Ailuronmy (because I liked their list), so I'd suggest looking there for this, but I can multitask to provide it.

Third: A table with: the prefixes with the same source, how many times it's been used in my clan, the colours/markings that that prefix can describe, the full name of the thing it is from, and a picture of the thing so I can have a reference of what I mean by a particular colour. There are some things without pictures, as I don't think I need a reminder of what "black" looks like, etc.
Eg: CAMBER- BEAUTY- CAMBERWELL- (1) | black and white, grey and white | Camberwell beauty butterfly | [picture of the camberwell beauty butterfly]
This list of names covers 46 pages. Yes, I just checked. If I come up with more categories of things to look for, this may well expand. This is a list of pretty much every organism I could think to look up for in Cumbria which is big enough for a cat to see and think vaguely significant, as well as all the common man-made things that are likely to be easy to find for a clan, and natural features that the clan doesn't identify by (which is every natural feature because the wind is not cat-coloured). Humankit is also a valid name, if anyone is interested in that detail of my naming system - but a humankit would never last long because the life expectancy of a hairless cat in Cumbria is a bit low. And in this massive list of names (in which each picture is deliberately very small), I still did not use things like Seed- and Twig- that I would deem to be too vague to be a useful indicator, not things like Heart- or Wish- that cannot be visualised. If you want to use them, then you still can.
There are only two conditions on which it is alright for a cat to share a name with a clan: if the leader has the same name as the clan (which is seen as supreme arrogance on their part, them basically saying that they are the only important thing in their clan) it is seen as okay to name a cat after the clan because that clan doesn't count if only one of its cats counts for its identity, it's just naming after an individual (not saying your leader thought that, just that that's what my clan would think of a leader doing that); if the clan is founded after the cat is named, and thus it would be impossible for it to be a disrespect (but in this circumstance, the cat concerned can't visit the clan concerned and use their own name as that's seen as dishonouring).

Fourth: a list of all names listed by all possible colours they apply to. Note that when I say "all" I mean "all I have been bothered to getting around to sort". There's a good page of specific bog plant prefixes I haven't sorted yet.

Fifth: that same list but with names that have already been used, or that I don't actually like that much removed.

Sixth: An alphabetical list of names that feature on Fifth but without being sorted by colour, and thus having no repeats.

Seventh: The list of clans that Gustclan doesn't think it's disrespectful to use the name of (from what I've observed myself).

Eighth: The unique names, alphabetically, without removing the ones I don't like that much.

Ninth: Names that work in my naming system that have been used in canon, so I cannot use. Some have special notes: eg "palefoot (DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH FEET BEING PALE)".

Tenth: Names currently being considered for cats who I have recently got and not yet named. I still have storage from Argusheart's kits there.

Eleventh: Very, very Gustclan specific stuff which no one else is going to be able to make any use of at all, trust me.


I have a very thorough name list is what I am saying, basically. I got very bored after exams last summer, and this is indeed what I did with at least some of my time.
However, this name list has pictures which I'm pretty sure are at least mostly of usage rights that I'm not meant to be sharing around (and thus do not want to). I'd also be unwilling to reformat the entire initial list without at least lots of subsections being done first, because of the time it would take to code (given I do not regularly bbcode Microsoft Word documents) and remove pictures; so I am only willing to share the table in shortish bursts with anyone who can't stand having to work out where the table is going at each point. If you want access to the table lists, you will need to tell me roughly what sort of thing you are looking for in your prefix (eg "I want a bird or a freshwater fish") for me to be willing to do this, or be okay with terrible formats. If you want to verify a picture as the same thing and manage to find one that is okay to share, etc., then I am willing to do that, but don't get hopes up on finding anything. Do not expect speed. At least, don't until enough people have asked for different things that I can just copy paste from what I sent them (though it's probably still best not to expect speed).
Also, there are spoilers for my clan buried at various points throughout the list, so you will not be getting a full version of the document. I don't even know how many spoilers for my clan are in there (I know there's some reverse spoilers, as in, things I've already done but would have been spoilers before). Do not ask for the whole document.
The whole list is way too long, so if you want a list, tell me either what sort of animals or what sort of colours, and tell me if you want any name of just rare names. Until I see a name used, I won't remove it from my list of unique names, and I'm not able to thoroughly check every single name all the time, so I'm sorry if it's not actually unique or if two people just happen to pick the same unique name and it's not unique any more. I am still deeming a name suffficiently rare to be worth using on my list if only one other person is using it (and by my recommending it), but I will make sure I mark it somehow to know not to share that name with anyone else who asks for unique names (though if you want a name which is just rare, those names will still be fine). If you cannot deal with the potential issue of me giving lots of people unseen names and the overlap that may occur, or you cannot deal with me only giving names for a specific colour, it's not worth asking me.
My list is very, very long, in case me saying 46 pages in italics isn't enough indication of that, so I do not want to post it on an actual thread where it would just dominate an entire page. Thus it will only be sent by PM except in very short segments I am specifically chosing to post for a given reason (such as suggesting names) on here. Please do not post it on here in full even if you somehow work out how it all fits, because I don't want anyone drowning a page, although posting segments in the same style as me, and similar lengths, is fine. Pretty sure you could be reported for spam if you posted it all as one thing as well.
My clan is set in Cumbria, in the north of England. Every prefix is location based - even the ones that don't seem to be are. If your clan is not set in a similar area, and you do not need generic everywhere names, and you cannot deal with having randomly displaced names or a cat who is randomly from the North of England, I cannot help.
I think I've done an effective Ts&Cs there? I'll just add any later I think of.

But; to the point of what I mean in all of this ^. If you want a list of prefixes, and my conditions above suit you, I am happy to give you a list of prefixes. If you really aren't sure what a prefix is on about, and I gave it to you, tell me in what context I gave it, and I will find it and explain it back, including why that is the form that prefix takes. You are welcome to ask for any single section bar large sections of my 46 page table (or, of course, just asking for the whole thing). Pretty sure I'm fine with you asking at any point too, but I can't predict how busy I'll be, so nor can I predict my speed.

Looking over the list of prefixes used so far;
Letters with no names used (number of unique names I have with this letter) : U (0), X (0), Z (2).
Letters with very few names used (as above): I (2), J (3), K (5), N (2), Q (1), V (9), Y (0).
I claim at least 1 of each of my Z names, but if anyone wants to help sort out numbers of letters being representative, my list can help.

@lost thoughts Oh goodness, I loved the last post! I'll have to go back and read more of them! I loved the way you had/have all the characters split into bundles(?) and that you include what tasks are happening in each one. Very neat - I may even ask to use a similar method in the future.

@all So question unrelated to CaC - is roses-! still active? I remember they were using a naming system similar to something I want to use for my kennel over on CaK. They used a "you get your full name when you've achieved something great" system and I want to do a "you receive a title every time you do something great" system. In other words a dog would start out as Bear and eventually gain the "name" Bear of the Charred Trees when he saved a pup from a fire and finally be respectable. Or the alpha would be Bear of the Charred Trees, Savior of the Hallowed Oak, Swimmer of Deep Waters. Do you guys think I need to ask permission to use that system or is it unfamiliar enough to be considered something entirely different?

So while shopping about a week ago I found a small surprise in the pet isle. I was picking out a toy for my dog Maxx because he was a good boy. So now he has a baby sister because I cant bare to part with this cuddly sweet heart that cries for just about everything.

And though it took a few days Ruby has grown on my classy old lady, Midnight. And once she was okay with it,
So was my Zecloe.

Yes these are my real fur babies. Yes I took these a mature photos. All my pets are always vetted, tagged, micro chipped and spoiled brats. Also if you wish to use these pictures please just PM me so I know. I have a ton of barn cats as well but they are not my real cats. People dump them on my property and I just give them food and water and if they need to be fixed, I take care of that. The friendly ones I try to find homes for though. I don't really take pictures of them and I probably won't.

Also the surprise kitten from the store was given the name Ruby because of a kid cartoon called Max and Ruby, though my dog is spelled Maxx because two x's are better than one.
