Tangled Untold

I looked up at my mother as she read the story. It was her story, of how she had escaped her evil “mother”. My mother’s name is Rapunzel, and my father is Eugene. He hates his name, though, so he has others call him Flynn, except Mother. I call him Father. My name is Adela. Mother had made her story into a book. Now, onto the story!
“And so I married Eugene, and then we had you,” Mother said, finishing his story.
“I love that story,” I said, sighing. “I wish my life had some sort of adventure in it.”
Mother smiled.
“You’ll have an adventure someday,” she said.
I smiled, and then hugged Mother and Father. I ran upstairs, and climbed into my bed. I turned out my light and pulled the covers over me. I shut my eyes and fell fast asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I yawned and stretched when I awoke. I got out of bed, still in my nightgown, and headed downstairs.
“Good morning, Mother and Father!” I said when I entered the kitchen.
But there was no reply. I looked all around the castle, but Mother and Father weren’t anywhere in sight. I started to get scared. I ran outside and looked all around the town, but Mother and Father where still nowhere in sight. I asked people everywhere, but they said they hadn’t seen anything. I ran outside of the village and soon I stopped in my tracks. Ahead of me was a forest. I looked back at the village, my home. I knew I had to fine Mother and Father, and I took a deep breath. I then looked ahead of my at the forest and ran into it. It was dark in the forest, and it seemed like nighttime even though it was day. I heard something in the distance. It sounded like pounding hooves. I squinted in the darkness, trying to see something. Something suddenly ran into me hard, and I fell down. The sound stopped, and I looked up. There, staring strait at me, was a brown horse with a white mane. I stared back at the horse.
“Hi,” I whispered to it.
The horse grunted. It didn’t look dangerous.
“I’m Adela,” I said. “I guess you can’t tell me your name..... so I think I’ll call you Darius, if that’s alright.”
The horse grunted again, and it looked as if he smiled, so I smiled back.
“I guess you like your new name,” I said. “Maybe you can help me?”
Darius grunted again, and I hopped onto his back.
“Let’s go!” I shouted, and Darius whinnied and galloped threw the forest.
I bounced up and down on Darius as he galloped, my long (and I mean long) brown hair flowing behind me. Ahead of me, I saw another horse. I saw a man on the other horse, and Darius galloped toward the other horse and man. The man saw me, and he made his horse run faster.
“Follow him, Darius!” I shouted at Darius.
Darius grunted and ran faster. We where next to the man again.
“Who are you?” I asked him, Darius and the other man’s horse still galloping.
But the man didn’t answer. He made his horse gallop faster, and they where soon out of sight. I told Darius to stop running, and he did. I hopped off of him.
“We’ve lost him,” I said, sighing. “He might of been the key to where Mother and Father are!”
Darius looked sad. He nuzzled me. I smiled and patted his head.
“Well,” I said. “I guess we have only one way to go: North, where the other rider went. Let’s go!”
I hopped on Darius, and we smiled at each other.
“Go!” I shouted at him.
He neighed, stood on his two feet, and then put them down and ran. He ran so fast everything was a blur. Suddenly, something rammed against my head and I fell off Darius. Darius didn’t realize that I had fallen off and he kept on running, running out of site. I rubbed my head and looked up, and saw that I had wacked my head on a tree branch so hard it made me fall off Darius.
“Darius!” I shouted.
But he was too far away to hear me. I sighed. I suddenly heard a galloping in the distance.
“Darius?” I asked, standing up.
But it was Darius. Horses neighed, and I looked in the distance, and saw huge horses galloping strait toward me. I gasped and jumped out of the way just in time. The horses passed me, but then they stopped. A man was suddenly standing in front of me.
“Who are you?” the man ordered me.
“Adela,” I replied. “Who are you?”
“You mean, Princess Adela?” he said, ignoring my question.
“Yes, and you are?” I said, getting annoyed.
The man, again, ignored my question and grabbed my arm.
“You let go of me!” I shouted, stomping on his foot.
But he wouldn’t let go. He tied me up and put me ontop of his horse, and then the horse galloped away with me. I was so exhausted, however, that I fell fast asleep.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I awoke, I wasn’t on the horse. I wasn’t in the castle. I wasn’t tied up. I looked around, and realized that I couldn’t. The room was pitch-black, and I couldn’t see a thing. I sighed, and tried to move my hand, but I couldn’t. I realized my hands where chained to some wall and I was dangling.
“Hello?!” I screamed. “Can somebody please explain?!”
Suddenly, I heard a door open and light filled the room. There, standing in front of me was the man that had taken me. He unchained me, but as soon as I was down I punched him in the nose. He groaned and held his nose. He then put handcuffs on me. He took me out of the dark room, but I looked back into the room to see many people there; and they where all so skinny I could see their bones. I gasped, and I didn’t want to see them again so I turned around. The man led me into a room and shut the door. I looked at a different man that was staring at me.
“You’re the Princess?” he asked me.
“Yes,” I said. “And you are?”
“What’s your purpose here?” he asked me.
Why wasn’t anyone answering my questions?
“I’m looking for my Mother and Father,” I said.
“Ah, the King and Queen,” the man said. “My men took them away a few hours ago.”
“Where did they take them?!” I shouted at him.
“No need for you to know,” he said. “Now, I might as well make you useful.”
The man grabbed me and punched me so hard I was knocked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I awoke, I was standing in front of a rope. But it was no regular rope. It was a noose. I gulped and I started to run, but men grabbed me and pushed me back up to where the noose was. They put handcuffs on my wrists and ankles. A man put the noose around me neck, and I still tried to run but failed. I finally knew I had to give up. I stood there, the noose around me neck.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked the man who had put the noose around me neck.
“We hate the King and Queen, and with you gone, they’ll think that we have you and they’ll give up their power as King and Queen to us for you, but you’ll already be dead!” the man said, laughing.
“Please, don’t do this,” I pleaded.
But he didn’t listen. He put his hand on a lever. Right before he was about to pull it I remembered something. I had put a knife in my pocket! It was hard to get the knife, but I did. I took it out of my pocket and into my handcuffed hands and I cut the rope around my neck. I placed the dagger under the man’s chin, so that it was level with his neck.
“Where are my Mother and Father?” I asked the man angrily.
“In-in-in-in-in the d-d-d-d-d-dungeon,” the man stuttered.
I pushed the man down and put my knife back in my pocket, and made a run for it. I ran threw a door, and I didn’t dare look back at the noose. I ran left and right, looking for Mother and Father. Suddenly, I ran into something. I pulled out my knife, not knowing what it was, when I realized it.
“Darius!” I exclaimed, hugging him.
Darius whinnied and nuzzled me.
“We’ve got to go and save Mother and Father!” I said. “They’re in the dungeon!”
I hopped onto Darius and we galloped away to the dungeon. Guards had noticed Darius and me and they chased after us. I grabbed my hair and threw it at a door that was ahead of us, and it wrapped around the doorknob. I pulled on my hair, and the door opened.
“Go in there!” I shouted to Darius.
Darius neighed and we ran into the door, only to find stairs leading downward.
“I guess we should go down,” I told him.
He neighed again and he galloped down the stairs. I soon realized where we where headed: the dungeon. When we where down to the dungeon, I got off of Darius. It smelled horrible.
“Mother?! Father?!” I shouted.
“Adela?” a voice asked.
“Father?” I whispered back.
I ran to his voice, though it was dark in the dungeon. I soon felt his hand, and then bars.
“Are you in a cell?” I asked him.
“Yes,” he replied. “Are you alright? What are you doing here?”
“I’m fine, and I’m wondering what you’re doing here,” I said. “I’m here because I went to find you. Where’s Mother?”
“I don’t know what I’m doing here,” Father said. “I have no idea where your mother is, because she was taken out of her cell just a few hours ago.”
“I hope she’s alright,” I said. “Let me get you out of there. Darius! Pound the cage open!”
“Who’s Darius?” Father asked.
“My horse,” I replied. “You might want to stand back.”
Father stood back, and Darius rammed his hooves against the cell, breaking the bars and making a large hole.
“Come on, Father!” I shouted at him. “We’ve got to go now!”
Father nodded, handed me a sword (I have no idea where he got it) and we jumped ontop of Darius. Darius galloped out of the jail, up the stairs, and out the door. He kept on running away, when something grabbed me and pulled me down. I screamed and kicked at the thing. I took my sword out and swung at the thing. When I had a look at the thing, I realized it was the man I had first talked to; the man that had taken me here. He took out his sword and pointed it at me. I took out my sword and fought him back. I swung my hair around his ankle and tripped him, making him loose his sword, and I pointed my sword at him.
“Where’s my mother?” I asked him.
“In the Hangman’s Field,” the man replied grudgingly.
I took my sword away from him and ran away.
“Darius!” I shouted at the horse, galloping away.
He turned around and looked at me.
“Come!” I shouted.
Darius neighed and came for me, and I hopped onto him.
“Go to the Hangman’s Field,” I said to him.
Darius whinnied and ran to the Hangman’s Field, where I saw Mother with a noose around her neck, and a man about to pull a lever.
“No!” I shouted.
I jumped off of Darius and threw my sword at the man, killing him. I ran to Mother and cut the rope around he neck.
“Thank you,” she whispered to me.
“Let’s go!” I shouted.
Mother nodded and we all hopped ontop of Darius. He galloped away from where the men had taken us all, and we where soon all back in the forest. Darius rode us out of the forest, and back to the castle entrance. But when we reached it, we stared in awe at what was ahead of us. Our whole city was burning! People where screaming and running out of the village. Mother and Father jumped off of Darius.
“We’re going to go see if we can help,” Father explained.
I nodded. They ran to get water to put out the fire, and I stayed on Darius.
“We’ve got to help,” I told him. “So we will.”
I told Darius to go into the city and to see who had done this. I saw a man hiding behind one of the burning buildings.
“Hey! You!” I shouted at him, and Darius galloped toward him.
The man screamed when he saw Darius and me and he began to run away. But Darius chased after him and I hopped off of him, and lunged at the man. He toppled to the ground when I landed on him.
“Who are you?” I asked him.
“No need for you to know,” he replied.
I put my dagger under his chin.
“I think there is,” I replied.
There was suddenly a loud explosion, and I fell over and covered my ears. I looked up, and saw the castle, my home, burning. I screamed and hopped onto Darius.
“Go!” I shouted at him.
Darius galloped toward the castle. When we reached it, I hopped off of Darius.
“Go find Mother and Father!” I said to him.
Darius hesitated, but he neighed and ran to find Mother and Father. I took a deep breath, and then entered the burning castle. Everything was in flames, and I looked around for the site of what I loved so dearly; the story book of Mother and Father. I found it lying in the corner, flames getting closer and closer to it. I ran to it, careful not to burn myself, and grabbed it. I headed to the front door, but a piece of burning wood from the ceiling landed in front of it, blocking my way out. I looked left and right and headed up the stairs and looked for some way out. I looked out the window and saw Darius approaching. Suddenly, I felt something very hot on me, and I realized that my clothes where on fire! I fell to the floor and rolled around, and the fire went out but my clothes had black marks all over them from the burn. Suddenly, the floor I was standing on broke away and I fell to the ground. I looked around, and saw the back door. I ran to it and opened it, and then ran outside, still holding the story book. I ran up front to Darius, and saw that Mother and Father where with him.
“Adela!” they said to me, hugging me.
I handed them the story book.
“That’s what you went in for?” Mother asked me.
I nodded.
“It means so much to me,” I said. “I just couldn’t loose it.”
Mother smiled. I looked around the city, and realized that all the fires where out, except the one in the castle.
“What now?” I asked. “Our home is burning, and the fire will spread.”
“People are coming to help put out that fire,” Mother explained.
“What about us?” I asked. “The men will come and take us again, won’t they?”
“Not anymore,” Mother replied. “Guards are posted around every corner of this castle now, and nobody can ever take us again.”
“So where will we live?” I asked her.
“We’ll build a new castle, and in the meantime we’ll stay with a couple of the villagers,” Mother replied. “A few said we could stay with them.”
“So everything’s going to be alright?” I asked her.
“Yes,” she replied.
I smiled and somehow knew that everything would be alright.
