I blame it on good writing and the fact that everyones favorite vehicle/animal can be a transformer. I mean if ones favorite thing was a lamp a minibot could definitely turn into it xd.

That's true, anything can be a transformer, even a photocopier or projector. I've seen someone on DA with a lamp OC, they originally weren't a TF though I think they did a version of them as a TF. Darn cutest thing I've ever seen.

I have trust issues for cellphones now, I'd never use one again if I knew it could be a minibot spying on me X'D

Another awesome thing about TFs is that they listen to the fans and take what they say into mind, and create vast worlds and continuities that are all slightly different but related still. And TFs can be as gay as gay can be and no one can say otherwise, because Cys don't abide to the laws of man

I lost track of my transformers ocs a while ago. I don't remember their names but I do remember one was a cape buffalo. I think his name was Stampede. Not the most creative name I know but hey at least I named it.
