Headcanons can work a lot of magic tbh xD A lot of this runs on the idea of them being high up for redemption/becoming solid allies to Steven, btw xD (And I'll be honest I can even see that happening with Jasper, but that's not for now. Also runs some on the 'Peridots are drone techs' theory/either way Peridot's just a really low little cog)
Like honestly, I'd be surprised if any initial re-meet between Peridot and Lapis ended in anything... anything other than a lot of nastiness, since they'd both have good reason to be angry at each other (Peridot for being the one responsible for the whole mission to Earth, Lapis for not doing anything about Jasper on the beach the first time); but they'd probably at least somewhat warm up to each other more over any of the other Gems because hey, you might suck but you suck less than the rest of them. Probably a lot of shared pain over being too intimidated by Jasper (Peridot because she's a low drone who can probably easily be replaced, certainly more so than a veteran of the civil war; Lapis because she's still just completely lost and terrified of anything resulting in imprisonment again) and homesickness-- even if they're choosing to stay on Earth for whatever reason, odds are high it'd be out of loyalty to Steven/knowing that going home will mean some preeeetty nasty punishment.
And at that point you can either keep on a platonic friend route, oooor fall into the shipping trash pile like yours truly xD (there's more, but that's the most organized I can get things. Chances are it's going to be totally disproved once the hiatus is over, but until then it's a fun way to pass the time x3 I'll be honest I've been on the ship for a while now and I'm still not entirely sure how it happened. At least Pearlmethyst has a little more ground |D)
But yeah, I do concede it's got literally no basis in canon, it's just a lot of fun xD ... and wow that went way longer than intended. But I've been meaning to kind of write up something like that for a while, my headcanons almost never get written...
@Jay Walker: For a month or so now, it's just been a thing over on tumblr to dedicate Tuesdays to Lapidot art xD I think it just started between a few people, but it's started to pick up steam the last couple of weeks.
