i hate to drive the conversation away, but could i share smething i noticed in brohood???
so like. i noticed that a lot of the characters have this kind of gleam in their eyes?? and for example, when xx ed realized he'd been impaled with that giant metal pole up north a little past the middle of episode 41, xx his eyes had lost their usual shine, however xx when he was affixed upon healing his wound, they'd come back. this ws probably some kind of determination shining through? xx some characters don't actually have any kind of glimmer at all, i've noticed? a few i have noticed that don't have them are maes hughes, scar and king bradley. i think the more naivete characters have that kind of trait, tbh? and truly cheerful at heart, really.
that being said, hughes, again, does not have this quality, and he's always seemingly cheerful, yeah? the characters i've listed seemed to be ones with some type of traumatizing past, except hughes' eyes were like this even before the ishvalan war(OVA 'Yet Another Man's Battlefield'). mustang does have a gleam in his eyes, except when he is fighting against xx envy xx and during the war(also in Yet Another Man's Battlefield).
there are many quotes about how the eyes of a person tell a story, yeah? it seems that arakawa uses large eyes to define those more naive, like mei, or even winry. hughes has got some.. almond-kinda-shaped eyes going on?? seems like these kind of people could usually keep control over their emotions, yeah?
so, what do you guys think? am i just kind of over-thinking this whole thing, or do you think that hughes had something going on when he was a younger man? in Yet Another Man's Battlefield, he says he joined the military because he 'wants to protect the one he loves,' meaning his lover(which he does not yet have), and even going so far as to bring a picture of his daughter and wife with him everywhere he goes. xx he is also forced to kill one of his friends from bootcamp(???) due to him being an ishvalan, during the war of extermination, heathcliff erbe, which would also hurt him, emotionally. xx
so do you think he's ever had any experiences with any emotional trauma or loss in the past, or would i just be over thinking this possibility?

( also im so glad they referred to envy as an 'androgynous teenager' on hughes' wikia page when not referring to them by their actual name god bless, )

Thats a super cool observation. I feel like in a lot of anime its hard to tell the difference in age range other then height, but of course you can never really rely on it. I feel like she was trying to find a way to define the age due to a rather large gap in the characters. The shows like a very diverse age range and its pretty cool. I want to say it sort of represents their maturity (like trauma and events and stuff) but if you think about it, thats not really the case? I feel like Ed is just super optimistic and positive and thats why his eyes are like that probably. Like another case where his eyes loose their shine is like after scar killed nina and Ed was on the steps his eyes had that like shading thing on his eyes rather than the shine. I think despite Roy's personality, he is mostly a serious character and as you said, after all that and knowing what he had to do to get where he is, he's gonna be a little like that. I feel like if Al were in a human form during most of the show, his eyes would be too bright to look at without sunglasses , tho. sweet little al.

Thanks for the link for Conquerers of Shamballa, I've been wanting to rewatch that too, but they only have the other movie on Netflix and I think that one follows Brotherhood... which I swear I'll actually watch... someday... maybe >_>

Oh! Has anyone else seen "Fullmetal Fantasy"? It's a short film that the voice actors only show at FMA panels at conventions but it's fantastic and I wish I could watch it over and over.

I just got up to date with A Sense of Reality, an incredible Fanfiction by Jyxxie (for on Fanfiction.com).
Arghgg these last chapter! Though honestly, if I'd come back to the story one chapter earlier I'd be in tears right now. But dang I hope another is posted soon! I seriously recommend it to you guys. It's RoyXAdult!Ed, but there's nothing explicit in it but language (but come on its THOSE TWO.) Anyways I await what happens next with baited breath!
