I vote option one, merely to make it a rarer gene. But maybe if you didn't want it that rare, you could do something like option 2 however just in combination with cream, pearl, champagne and mushroom genes? *flails* Just throwing out ideas!

I was mostly thinking about how it would work in combination with other dilute genes - the calico spots would show with a cream or pearl dilution present in the coat, but say the coat was a tobiano dunalino - the calico spots would then be diluted to a red dun colour, as opposed to a chestnut colour if the coat had just been tobiano palomino. It's a little extra to think about is all, and adding other dilute genes that it works with helps to curb some of the confusion, but would unfortunately also make it more common. Also wondering if it should dilute all copies of cream/pearl, or just one *perlino tobiano having calico spots diluted to bay or buckskin*.

I'm over thinking this aren't I.

I plan to add calico as well, but wanted to get your opinion on which 'version' I should use. Should it only affect cream/pearl dilute genes, or a multitude of other genes?

Option 1
Calico (c)- recessive dependent (acts only in presence of tobiano in combination with cream and/or pearl genes)

Option 2
Calico (c)- recessive dependent (acts only in presence of tobiano in combination with cream, pearl, champagne, mushroom, dun, roan and gray)

Option 1 is the more realistic choice, but option 2 allows for greater variety in designs with the calico gene.

So I've come across a filly who has undergone genetic testing and is both classified as calico tobiano AND a champagne+cream dilute - her calico spots appear to be the same shade as an amber champagne dilute, and her entire coat (spots included) show a glossy sheen typical of many champagne-coated horses.

This information coupled with the feedback given here has lead me to keep the calico gene as something which only acts upon the cream and pearl genes. There will also be a calico pony up for adoption sometime today to kick off the new gene :3

Sabine loves springtime when all of the fresh grass comes back out! even though she has to wear a muzzle sometimes lolol
Minuet hates the cold, but her favorite season is winter because she gets to stay in Florida for 4 months!

Paniya's favourite season is definitely fall, when the leaves start turning orange and the wind picks up. It makes her friskier than usual ^^
Minny is definitely a spring-summer gal, because that's when all the new foals arrive. Being the barn babysitter, she loves having new babies around to look after

Just wanted to post here real quick and apologize for the dry spell in adopts, I've got an exam next week and have just had other things that need my focus.

On the plus side, the boy we have up will be running for over 3 weeks, which gives everyone lots of time to get entries all nice.

I will be planning something for Valentines Day, so be sure to keep an eye out for that as well!
