For folks who give tricks - what's you're reasoning? This is purely a curiosity thing (I haven't given a trick yet, and I'm not sure if I will): I've run across one person who did it to get you to follow a plot/path sort of thing (can't wait to revisit them, I'm excited to see how the "choose your own adventure" style plays out!) but I know there are people who do it for a variety of reasons

I only trick if I have nothing to give someone (which means they asked for WL only, no C$, and I have nothing on their WL or the things I have on their WL are all super valuable and I want to keep them for my own trades).

I will say I want to give out more items but I want to keep my limited store items… hard to remember which ones are which after all the cool ones we’ve had!

both tricks i've given out so far were because i didn't have any treats they'd like/the only things i have on their wl are valuable/important to me

i'm really enjoying this year so far!! : D except for a small hiccup where i ran out of pets to give on my first day... （^︶^"）
i've gotten some amazing treats and also a few tricks. it's really getting me in the halloween mood! :3

I'm so nervous to run out of pets! I feel so bad when I can't give someone a WL pet, and/or like my treats are too small! People have been so generous to me, and I my treaters to like what they get

I've had some amazing gifts that have made me smile this week, but this guy my first ever treat (this is my first year!) and he's so special

first time lolo player here, does anyone have any tips/examples of their stories to send when they're giving someone else a trick/treat? (not the one where you're saying trick or treat to someone else!!)

- the story or pet was a bit underwhelming (but i would never directly say that to a user)
- the user only had very valuable pets on their wl
- or i received an influx of ToTs and gave a large amount of pets away, or gave many high value pets away and have to pause on the gifting

however, i dont leave ToTs with nothing, my version of a trick is to send a few super low value, low demand pets. that way they still get something, and it has double trick factor as i assume they see i sent a trade and assume a nice treat

untraditional, but i cant leave people with nothing pfft

I like those kind of tricks, especially if the low demand pets are older - I use them to treat other ToTs, especially newer ones.

If I wind up doing tricks, I think I'd have the same metric as you, save for story/costume. I had to spend a lot of time on my story especially because I had very little in terms of costumes to work with, and I try to take into account that some people aren't going to have the time or may struggle with creative writing, but are going to want to participate (and that some of them might be awesome at giving out treats as well). I also don't think I've recieved anything I felt was particularly low-effort, though!

I personally tricked someone because I had my lights off when they sent their request! It's not a huge deal, but if I allow 1 user to trick or treat while my lights are off, i'd have to allow everyone to do so.
I'm very busy irl so I wouldn't be able to keep up with requests in that situation, so it will always be a trick no matter how much I love their dressup or story

Similar to what other users have said, I am more likely to give tricks if:
1. They ONLY have high value pets on their WL, and nothing else.
2. They try to describe things about my greeter, or go overboard describing "my yard" in a way that doesn't work with either of my greeters.
3. They NEVER have their lights on. And I don't just mean this year, because I know sometimes you just miss the times when people have their lights on, but I've played for years and there are some people who I have NEVER seen turn off their lights. That's an automatic trick from me.
4. I don't have anything on their WL AND I'm running low on fodder after giving out a lot of treats.
5. They come when my lights are off. (I almost never have this happen...maybe two or three times a year.)
6. They sent me a trick.

Aside from #3 and #5, I do sometimes still send treats to those people if I really like their story or their costume. I'm just much less likely to do so. I will sometimes people who do #5 to come back and try again later, if I really like their story and I think it was an honest mistake.

I can’t believe I never saw this thread before! This is my first year participating and I've been having so much fun with it so far!
