Also, I'm dying for rats, but my mother hates them. I wouldn't go behind her back and get them, because:
A. I wouldn't be able to support them.
B. I'm too young.
C. I've read countless times that getting rats has to be something the family wants, not just an individual.
SO....
I'm looking for a way to show her that fancy rats aren't evil, biting, disease spreading vermin. Any suggestions?

Explain to her that they are as clean as bunnies, but eat and scratch less. Most people think bunnies are the perfect pets, so stating facts like that help often. The fact how little cleaning and feeding helps as well, and tell her your plans to take care of the ratties.

WolfOnATreadmill wrote:He sounds gorgeous. If I ever was able to get rats then I'd go for personality also. There was a gorgeous brown hooded rat who I was chatting to the other day in the pet shop (though he was sourced from unreliable places, according to my research). He's got a very knowing face, and seems friendly.
Another thing: consider getting a friend for your rat. Maybe there's a reason why you're not, but he'd be so much happier with a sibling/cagemate.
