Trick or Treater: Blair 🎃


Story: Blair's Fairy Project

There have been many folk tales about mystical creatures that roam the forests of Moonglade. Stories of magic, and creatures with beautiful luminescent wings. Blair had always been interested in the stories about the fae. It is said that if you visit the forest dressed as a fairy during the month of October, they will come out to greet you. It may even be possible for them to surprise you with a treat depending on how good your costume is!

Blair desperately went on the hunt for items to create their costume with. She found a ton of fallen leaves to create a charming autumn bracelet with. She then went to the farmers market to see what was for sale. She approached a merchant who was selling fake fairy wings. Immediately her eyes went to the beautiful redish-orange wings "THESE, I WOULD LOVE THESE PLEASE"!

Despite purchasing the wings, Blair felt that something was still missing. Fairies are magical, yeah? What else can I add to the costume to give it that magic? OH, what about a staff? That would complete the look. After that, Blair sat outside to construct a staff from tree leaves, string, and tree branches. A few days later the costume was complete. There is a lot of excitement in Blair's heart about visiting the forest and meeting the fairies.

Two days later...

Blair has begun her journey to Moonglade! As she approaches the forest she comes across three little ghost wisps. Despite not understanding what they are saying, she follows them into the forest. Are they leading me to the fairies? Blair observes the beautiful scenery as she walks deeper into the forest. There are many types of mushrooms in the forest, pumpkins both large and small, fallen leaves, and hollow trees. It is only after a while that the wisps halt and Blair finds herself in the middle of a fairy ring. As she looks around she notices a cottage in the distance. Did the wisps bring me here on purpose?

The wisps continue to guide Blair to the cottage. Could it be? Could I finally be meeting a fairy?? Will they like my costume?
The wisps encourage Blair to knock on the door. Blair knocks and shouts "TRICK OR TREAT"!

I hope you all enjoyed my story and twist on "trick or treating".

I swear Starlight is having a blast. It’s been years since I’ve been on here and even joined LOLO; but I’ve got so many pets stocked up that I’ve been able to give huge amounts out. I’m excited to see how the rest of the month goes 👻

If I'm being honest I mostly just moderate the game now and don't have as much time for actual trick or treating, but my main suggestion would just be to not feel rushed about it ^^ We've got over 250 people on the list and you'll have a whole month to play so don't feel like you have to do all of them in a day or anything. Last year our total was a bit under 300 but we may go over that this year. Most players join within the first week of October so the influx of players slows down a lot after that, so there isn't any need to 'keep up' or anything like that.

The other main thing would be to keep a list of who you visit, and who responds, etc. We've got some pre-made lists here that are really helpful for that. Its especially important if you plan to do a lot of visits and re-visit people. If you are just going to visit each person once its still good to keep track since you may need to go back to visit someone later if their lights are off the first time you check their profile.

I try and keep the atmosphere for LOLO pretty chill, you're really free to play as much or as little as you want, we've also got a discord for LOLO players so you can talk about stories or costumes you liked and stuff like that if you want to engage with other players, but its really all up to you, I prefer to let people have freedom in how they play ^^ If you are confused about anything or have questions, all of our thread staff are really friendly and more than happy to help out and answer questions.

Hey everyone, just wanted to pop in and let you all know about a small update to the rules on the main thread. These have been in place its not really a change, I'm just upgrading them to Official Rule status and making them a bit more clear since we've been having more trouble with this in recent years.

The info was previously found in other areas around the thread (like the FAQ). Its a bit of a juggling act trying to decide what to keep in the rules and what not since the long rules post seems to be intimidating to new players, so I usually try and cut out anything not strictly necessary to know to play, but sometimes (as in this case), not including it in the rules post and putting it elsewhere instead seemed to be causing problems.

The 'new' rule is as follows;

• You and other LOLO players are never required to give a treat/gift to someone if you do not want to. Gifts should be entirely voluntary. You should expect to give away some gifts if you do join, but other players should never tell you that you must give them a treat or give something specific as a treat.
  
  • Users on our list may have gift preferences listed, these are only to be used as a guide. You are still free to give the user anything you want as a treat. Players should not be requiring that only treats following their preferences be given.
  • If you do not want a treat/gift being sent to you, you may cancel, but you may not ask for a different treat in return.

Essentially what this means is that no one playing should feel like you have to give a treat if they don't want to. Obviously if someone signed up for LOLO they should expect to give things away but what they give away and when should be dictated by them alone. This also applies to any form of guilt-tripping for treats, asking for better treats, someone expecting/asking to be given something of similar value that they gave you, etc.

This is a gifting game and the point is to gift, but we feel its very important that you have the freedom to give what you want, when you want. So if you feel like someone is infringing on that please let us know. This still isn't a common issue or anything, I've just been noticing an uptick so I felt it was prudent to add it to the rules so everyone is aware of it and hopefully keep it from becoming more of an issue.

I may also make slight updates to the wording or add more clarification in the future if there seems to be a lot of confusion over certain aspects of it. I'd like to be as clear as possible so I welcome any feedback ^^

It's sad people are being so entitled with gifts like that. This event is entirely voluntary, none of us *have* to do it. We are giving because we love giving, making people smile, and seeing all the cute costumes/stories users come up with. I LOVE seeing how creative everyone gets with their costumes and stories. As well as the reply stories. Seeing all the thought people put behind both the giving and asking is one of the things I love most about the event.
Getting Wishlist stuff is always fun (I love how it helps me get items/pets I missed over the past year, or even older ones that have been on my wishlist forever) but the true beauty is everyone coming together and being so creative for my favorite holiday of the year!
