I must admit, it's pretty easy to tell between genders. I met the most gorgeous male hooded rat in the pet shop yesterday, and we had a conversation with our eyes (if you know what I mean...)

I'm so happy right now, we took Annabell to the vet earleir for her check-up. The vet said she has to be on her meds for another week and then she's free to go! She's been doing so much better, she's already gained 15 grams in a week, and she's finished her first molt (she lost her curl, but I'm hopping it comes back with her next one).
I'm can't wait for her to meet my other girls, they're going to love her.
@Wolf: Oh yeah, I've never had a boy, but I can sure tell the difference. I know what you mean though, that's why I have four right now.

Anyone low what I can do about my new feral eat Pablo? He is extremely fearful and also unpredictable. One Minot he will sniff me and let my stroke him the next he clamps down on my finger. I've had him 3 weeks and no change. He still hides when he sees me and I hate having to get him out his cage as he's terrified then when he's out he hides. I just want him to be relaxed around mr so I can get him out and be cuddled. I have tried food rewards but he still prefures to step over the food and give me a nip.
Sorry for my slow response time on RP's. My new job steals ALL my time. :(

Hey, guys... I have some sad news.
My rat Whisper is really sick. I took her to the vet on Sunday when I noticed a dramatic weight loss, and we suspected that she had pyometra - an infected uterus. She had a lump on her stomach, and some pus was coming out from her vulva. The first vet suggested that we should go to another practice center, where they had the right tools for operating. However, this morning when we took her in to the recommended vet, she told us that the lump in her stomach had grown too much. Operating her would be too dangerous, because of her age, and because this vet suspected that the lump was a tumor or cancer, and that it extended too much. My family is short on money now, and the operation would be too expensive, and may be fatal. So I guess we just have to make her as comfortable as we can until she leaves us...
We have her in the tank now, because the vet says her big cage could be harmful if she fell from high up. So my other rat Pixel is alone in the big cage now. I've heard that sometimes rats fight when one comes back from the vet, but I can't bear to leave Whisper alone there... Does anyone have any experience with this - can I put Pixel with her sister so that they can be with each other a little longer? I can tell that they miss each other...

I'm no longer an active member of this community, but I'm always looking to commission art of my dog, Pascal the Pomeranian! ^^ PM me if you're interested in drawing him, and we can discuss payment.

You can put them together, yes. Make sure that the remaining rat sees Whisper's body when she dies. It is important that you spend lots of time with Pixel afterward. She will be mourning and alone and need you to comfort her. I am sorry your girl is so sick.
Wolf, is he neutered? How old is he? Does he ever fluff up or step sideways at you?

This is going to sound dumb- but is he feral, as in...wild?

No, he's not a wild rat lol. I rescued him from a rescue center a few weeks ago. He's a brown hooded rat (possibly dumbo, fancy mix). He was born at the rescue center and almost never handled.

I was just thinking...that'd be a bit weird, XP
He sounds gorgeous. If I ever get rats, then I'll base my decision on personality- not looks. However, I think hooded rats are especially beautiful.

Lol yeah XD I love wild rats but not good to own them XD he is cute :D I got him because I like to rescue animals and I know rats that bite are less likely to get homes and wanted to give him another chance :) I would love to cuddle him but if not I will still give him a good life. :)
